Project Summary
The background of the project is that the participating schools have the intention to enhance the cultural horizons of the children and prompt them acquire and develop skills in the process.Firstly, by creating a more profound vision of each other’s culture by exchanging knowledge via online tasks, and secondly by exchanging in a physical way to fully immerse into the cultures. The context in which the project takes place can be explained by a lack of knowledge among children of different cultures within the European Union in the actual school curriculum. With this project we would like to facilitate the possibility of meeting directly with new cultures. The goal that can be accomplished within the project lifespan is that the students learn directly from others that have a completely different culture than theirs and the execution of this project facilitate this. Furthermore, the basic context is obviously the European Union; a rapidly changing union based on collaboration, friendship, history and culture. Our children are the ones that need to spread this beautiful heritage in the future. For this reason it is important that they should first discover and understand it and meet each other in an early stage of their adolescence. Everybody is different and children need to learn to be tolerant towards others.
The objectives of the project are:
1. To discover and transmit our own cultural heritage
2. To understand and experience our partners’ cultural heritage
2. To acquire relevant skills for today’s and tomorrow’s society by experiencing the intercultural/inter-generational education and lifelong learning in n a both physical and non-physical way
3. To disseminate the results obtained through our project at local, regional, national and international level so that as many people as possible to learn from the project results
There are 5 schools that will work together on the project. The target group is 12-15 years old students. The schools come from different parts of Europe, which makes it an interesting blend of cultures; Romania, Turkey, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. Every school will have 5 student representatives and 2 teachers. The schools have each different social-demographics profiles, given the fact that there are small regional and metropolitan schools among the participating schools. This fact makes the strategic partnership very interesting because the schools will be able to exchange different social-demographic visions on the world around us.The students will work on different final products during the activities that are based on: myths , instances of history, places in Europe, art in the countries, crafts, villages, traditions, recipes, traditional songs, sports and dances. The project teams will create a vlog series with these experiences, will have both physical mobility and virtual exchanges, will go treasure hunting, will disseminate the results and evaluate their activities. The activities will be held in an active way to provide input and to get the maximum out of it.
The methodology we will use in the project is a fair distribution of tasks; this means a mutual agreement of tasks in carrying out the project, that has been established at the stage of its devising, according to each school ‘s experience and strong points.
We envisage a cultural cross-fertilisation between students from different corners of the European Union. The impact will be wider than the participating students and schools. as culture bonds us. Concretely, this means that the results are the execution of the learning activities that have been created and developed by the participating schools, as well as the activities in the virtual classroom and the activities during the physical exchange where other students from the schools will also learn and see what the project is trying to achieve. The impact is that the participants will improve their skills, the schools will gain in prestige in the local community and at regional/national level, the teachers and schools will use the tangible results in their teaching and extra-curricular activities. The project social media will definitely play an important role in this, as the world is always online and thus it is easy to stay connected. Shortly said, the envisaged final products will cause a great impact on the learning process at local, regional, national and international level as the tangible results will be available for everybody.
Long terms benefit:
There are several long term benefits of this strategic partnership. One of the most important things is without a doubt the possibility to discover new cultures by meeting new people and creating friendships. On the long term the benefit will be a better relationships between the school, thus the countries. Another long term benefit will be the increase of tolerance towards new cultures because of a profound interactive study of another culture and also the possibility to set up new European projects.
