Project Summary

“Discover and enable others to discover your country or area through local art and artists”As a result of an Erasmus project+KA1 and thanks to e-twinning 10 teachers of 10 different subjects at Paul Hermann College , a school targeted for special help in education, have created this innovative project with partners from 3 schools in Romania, Poland and Turkey. Our contexts are very similar : social and cultural difficulties, academic failure, cooperation with families in difficulty, rich but poorly known cultural and natural environments, little knowledge of European dynamics. We chose art and languages as a means of exchange and transnational educational influence. Our priorities are active citizenship through culture, the relationship with schooling and education and foreign language learning. Thus , Paul Hermann, Gimnaziala Gimnazjum and Alara Ortaokulu share three goals :- Developping a sense of belonging to Europe through cultural discovery and combatting cultural isolationism- Fighting social inequalities and academic failure by giving a sense of responsibility to pupils by means of production, correspondence and travel- Using foreign languages to communicate whilst improving linguistic performanceThe teachers are already working locally on interdisciplinary art culture and linguistic projects. They are gaining artistic skills (art, sound and live shows, galleries and educational paths.),technological and scientific skills, language trips or cultural outings, organizational skills(museums, shows, artistic meetings) linguistic skills ( KA1 training). There are 25 participating pupils in the third year of high school and their parents. 1500 people ( educational team and pupils’ parents) will witness these exchanges. The project will run over 2 years and be divided into 3 activity groups :-Exploration of the arts and culture of each : local studies of 8 artistic fields and artists per 6 week cycle (literature, music, street art, land art……) in conjunction with lessons, production of artwork and documents, local visits (museums, theatres…),study of the partner countries( geography, culture , economy).- European exchanges and meetings: correspondence in English or Spanish on art and local culture, descriptions of the specific artists of each(artists, works of art ), participating pupils’ trips to the partner countries (2 teachers for 10 pupils).- Valorization and dissemination: logbook, exhibitions, shows, private viewings and documentaries .Permanent dissemination in the schools, cultural and academic diffusion venues and on internet (websites, blogs). The methodology in place crosses art, languages and Europe. Art is universal, transnational work develops a sense of pride and belonging. Before the start of the project : the use of e-twinning to choose the activities together, group formation(evaluation and diagnostics)language training for the teachers in Europe.(KA1) transnational meetings before and after each stay.A calendar and a provisional budget are supervised by an expert bursar and the head teacher. During the project: the participating pupils study local culture and art and produce artwork and documents ; they exchange with the partner schools (skype, mails, Blog, wordpress, videos and articles on Twinspace) They travel in Europe. Regular evaluations of the effects of the project (realizations, associations, progress, emulation) Financial accounts overseen by the bursar and the head teacher. After the project or after each action: diffusion of the scale from local to European ( private viewings, press, internet) dissemination to all pupils and parents, pupil evaluation ( knowledge, skills, attitudes), questionnaires for parents, maintaining of correspondence, financial reports. The medium- term expected impacts are new practices and an invigoration of teaching, the setting up of art and languages as the object of transnational exchange, the valorization of digital techniques, academic motivation through quality production , unquestionable evaluation of pupils (assiduity, attitude, interest , creativity, pleasure of learning, progress notably in languages A2-B1).In the longer term an interdisciplinary and transnational work based on art, a positive perception of school for the children and their parents, the image of the school for the inhabitants but also in the local authority and the partner ones, pupils given a European ambition in their schooling. We expect a fruitful transnational cooperation (feeling like a European citizen) access to autonomy through foreign language learning and beyond that tolerance and the fight against racism. Finally, we hope to contribute to the development of a European skills zone.
