Project Summary

The project Democracy Is the Best Control and Supervision springs from the idea that children should be better informed about their rights and responsibilities. The project brings together five preschools and primary schools from Sweden, Spain, Greece, Romania and Turkey. The target group of the project are 4 – 11 years old pupils. The purpose of the project is to raise the pupils’ awareness about Children’s Rights. This is the keystone which facilitates pupils’ active role in a democratic society. Partner institutions are interested in offering broad and inclusive curricula, in designating a safe space for children to express their individual views and contribute to school and community’s life, in developing a specific learning and assessment focused on children’s rights, as well as in guiding pupils to fully understand their rights and responsibilities.
The project aims at developing institutional curricula by means of carrying out various interdisciplinary activities which focus on promoting children’s rights and responsibilities as presented in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
The objectives of the project are:
-to raise pupils’ awareness about specific social norms and desirable behaviour in society among the 500 participants from the partner schools by August 2022
-to encourage the 125 directly involved pupils to respect children’s rights both at school and in their after school daily life all along the 24 months of the project
-to shape positive attitudes towards themselves and others
-to create some materials that will ease the implementation of the actions which promote children’s rights
The project is accessible to all pupils and teachers in each partner institution. The learning activities involve a number of 125 pupils (4 -11 years old) who will join the local activities and 100 teachers who will travel to join the transnational learning activities. English is the working language of the project.
To achieve the main project’s objectives we devised a series of activities which take an interdisciplinary approach. The activities in the project will reveal the diversity of different European cultures and, therefore, there will be various approaches in dealing with the same topic. In order to encourage pupils to express their cultural traits, as well as their artistic skills, and spiritual individuality, there will be employed a set of non-formal tools. The 5 transnational learning activities involve teachers from all countries. As a result, the participants will have the chance to learn from one another, to observe how their peers prepare a mobility, what it feels like to take part in such a project and what they should do to offer their guests unforgettable memories. The manner the project unfolds will help pupils to improve their critical thinking skills, as well as communication and creativity skills necessary in our fast-changing complex world. The joint activities will help overcome borders, cultural differences, bringing everyone one step closer towards European collaboration. All participants will get increased awareness of Europe’s cultural heritage, as well as of European values and their importance in the European community.
The concrete results of the project are: the project logo , questionnaires, Powerpoint presentations, a poster exhibition, a drawing exhibition, time capsules, handmade bookmarks, educational puzzles, a short film, suggestion boxes, summer school toolkit for activities connected to children’s rights, an online eTwinning project, the project website, 5 scrapbooks-diary of the project, the project DVD and photo album, 2 school magazines, other promotional materials (flyers, roll ups, banners, etc.).
The activities of the project will encourage peer collaboration and cultural dialogue. The summer school will employ experiential learning in order to create practical resources that can raise pupils’ awareness about children’s rights. The project also gives pupils the opportunity to improve their digital skills and will encourage them to use the Internet for educational purposes. The scrapbooks-diary and the schools magazines will promote acceptance and respect for cultural diversity, as well as the sense of belonging to European community.
Participating institutions, schools or kindergartens, will forge trustful relationships, expand their network of European contacts, while, at the same time, will acquire an international dimension to their institution and to the teaching process they promote. They will also have the opportunity to enrich their institutional curricula and their institutional development plan.
The concrete results of the project will be used during and after the project as support materials for formal/informal teaching and other extra-curricular activities. The concrete results will be integrated in the everyday activities of the participating schools. Therefore, the content of the project will become an integral part of the everyday p
