Project Summary

Project „Develop Yourself to Develop Your Rural Community”, coordinated by Serbian NGO Razvoj sela (RASEL), was implemented in two stages – seminar and a training course in March, 2019 and May, 2019. The project was held in multi-ethnic city of Čoka, located in the autonomous region of Vojvodina at the Serbian – Hungarian – Romanian borderland. The project, consisting of a seminar and a training course, was designed to empower youth workers and active leaders to act for social inclusion and building of social cohesion in their local communities by learning needed skills and knowledge and providing trainings on youth entrepreneurship and employability in rural and poorly urbanised areas as a basis for youth empowerment and building more socially coherent (still respecting and supporting diversity) European societies.Seminar, which took place in March, 2019, was dedicated to exploring meaning of terms key to youth entrepreneurship and developing both businesses and social cohesion in rural areas. Participants explored key documents, policies and strategies (on all levels, from local and regional to European), exchanged good practices and discussed with local stakeholders specifics of work and issues local communities face in multi-ethnic community at non-EU and EU borderland (Coka is located in Serbia on Serbian-Hungarian border, with very close distance to other EU countries – Croatia and Romania). We will also meet members of local parliament and government of the autonomous region of Vojvodina. Training Course in May 2019, has concentrated on equipping youth workers, trainers and volunteers from partner organisation with tools necessary to foster youth entrepreneurship, social activism, sustainable development, and respect for European values. Participants learned existing tools and resources, exchanged good practices, and worked on a toolbox, containing innovative methods of youth work created by them as a result of the project.The project has also included a set of follow-up activities in the form of local workshops implemented by consortium members using knowledge, skills and methods they will have gained during both activities.Outputs of the project has allowed us to tackle real issues young people face in their local communities (such as weak support for young people willing to start their own businesses and lack of career opportunities) using creative non-formal education methods.
