Project Summary

“Development of Interactive and Animated Drawing Teaching Tools”
When designing with applicable design systems such as CAD, CAM, CAE, BIM, etc., it may appear like computers do all the job, however, the end-user is always a human being. One can fully realize the potential of such systems only if they understand “the language of engineers”. This project was intended to minimize the gap between potential and perception of graphic information. The learning material content was selected based on results of a needs analysis and adapted in accordance with material testing results.
Main objective of the project was to prepare a computer option of interactive and animated drawing teaching tools, which would help students of vocational schools, colleges and universities learn and master drawing teaching materials in an efficient manner. Use of interactive teaching material helps students memorize information and apply it in practice.
Interactive and animated drawing teaching material was prepared in line with thematic teaching plans (chapters), and allows students to learn drawing both by hand and on computer (AutoCAD, Onshape programs).
The project involved 8 partners from 5 European Union countries: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia.
P1. Public Institution Vilnius Builders Training Centre (Project Coordinator, Lithuania)
P2. SLOVENSKA TECHNICKA UNIVERZITA V BRATISLAVE (Slovakia)
P3. Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus (Estonia)
P4. VYTAUTAS MAGNUS UNIVERSITY AGRICULTURE ACADEMY (Lithuania)
P5. The Lithuanian Society of engineering graphics and geometry (Lithuania)
P6. RIGAS TEHNISKA UNIVERSITATE (Latvia)
P7. Panevezys College (Lithuania)
P8. POLITECHNIKA SLASKA (Poland)
Taking into account that vocational teachers, lecturers, instructors from vocational schools, colleges and universities needed to improve technical and didactical competencies of drawing (computer graphics), “Development of Interactive and Animated Drawing Teaching Tools” project partners took the following steps:
1. Investigated methodologies of teaching how to draw, application of symbols, relevance of each chapter in the teaching plans, applicable standards in each partner’s country.
2. Based on needs analysis results, prepared 4 chapters of “Drawing”. “Interactive and Animated Drawing Teaching Tools” (drawing by hand and with AutoCAD, Onshape programs) material.
2.1. Execution of drawing. Geometric drawing;
2.2. Basics of projection drawing. Images.Sections.Slices;
2.3. Joints of parts. Drawings of parts;
2.4. Construction drawing.
3. Created project “Development of Interactive and Animated Drawing Teaching
Tools” website https://liggd.lt/diad-tools/gb, available in English and every partner’s language.
4. Organized living labs for groups of teachers, lecturers, students in Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia. Participants tested and adjusted interactive teaching material, improved technical competencies.
5. Based on the testing results, improved and finalized methodical material.
6. Presented the result to target groups.
Target groups of the project:
– Students of vocational schools;
– Students of higher schools and colleges;
– Vocational teachers;
– Lecturers of higher schools and colleges, scientists of the field.

Each part of the material has an optional musical background, which can be turned on and off.
Project DIAD-tools materials are freely accessible and can be used any time. Video materials can be watched both sequentially or in a preferred order, views are unlimited. It works like any other usual video platform.
Access to learning resources at a convenient time in a convenient place on smartphone or tablet allows students to maintain mobility and independence.
Project DIAD-tools resources can be used as supplementary materials in theoretical or practical classes.
DIAD-tools teaching material will be an useful alternative for students, who want and/or need to study drawing theory in addition to lectures and textbooks .
When using DIAD-tools teaching material, information is conveyed through student’s visual perception, which often allows for quick and concise access to information
The teaching material of DIAD-tools project is useful for vocational schools students, as it provides not only theoretical material on relevant topics, but also covers various technological processes such as threading, welding, parts assembly and more.
