Project Summary

Context : Both schools are completely opposite ; One in rural area and in mountains, the other one by the sea and in urban zone. The difference is also the sizes of thoses schools.

Objectives : This interdisciplinary project permit to the pupils to discover another culture by means of various disciplines throughout 3 years.
It permit to work the skills of the common base thanks to the various exchanges and the sendings their realizations of 2 schools.

Number and profile of the participants : 80 pupils of Condat country school, from the nursery school to the junior school ( 4 teachers and 4 classes) / School Ings Farm of Redcar in urban area with 500 pupils, 18 teachers and 12 teaching assistants.

Description of the activities :
First year : A programming in sport was established between the partners for pupils of CE1, CE2, CM1, CM2.
All the year, both schools set up one activitie « warming-up » every morning before beginning the learnings from the nursery school. It permit to learn the verbs used during the various actions.
In sport lesson, some instructions were given in LVE especially in the phases of heating.
A route of motricity was painted on the ground of the school yard with the various instructions in LVE.
Exchanges of e-mails between the pupils of CM took place like questionnary around their favourite sports and their rules to follow.
Tournaments with constitution of French-English teams during the trips.
Every activity was followed by an exchange of e-mails, photos, videos…

Second year : Exchange about sharing songs an cooking-recipes based on the traditional feasts of both countries.
The youngest pupils chose a common mascot (cook Ratatouille) who made the link between e-mails sent around recipes and songs of the year. Every partner sent recipes which the other school made and tasted. Every pupil held a file of recipes English and French songs with photos and comments with regard to the tasting of the various recipes.
A layout, a color code on the verbs and the ingredients and a code with images for the actions outbuildings to both schools were set up so that the pupils manage to understand what it was necessary to make. The teaching mobility allowed to think about this agreement. A display of the verbs and the lexical of recipes was installed in every class to make a common tool.
On every Tuesday, a choir with the children of nursery school and CP emphasized bed songs sent by both countries.
A report « Destination Francophonie » of the channel TV5 Monde was shot by the journalist Ivan Kabakoff in the both schools. The project was chosen among all the files to celebrate 30 years of Erasmus. In this report, we see well the children exchanging around the games built on the lexical of recipes and singing together their common directory. The party of both schools allowed the parents and the elected representatives to discover the realizations of every school.

Third year : During the first period, schools sent several fragments of art and the children invented repercussions in the classes. Once their creation, the partner school sent the original art to compare it with the productions.
During the second period, two famous portraits of each country were sent to the partners and the goal was in the diversion of the art (for example : divert Henri VIII in Santa Claus).
During the third period, the children had to realize with various processes several typical monuments of every country.
The fourth period was dedicated to the use of the digital technology. The children had to transform the photos of the correspondents with a software.
The end of the year saw the creation of a fantastic and poetic bestiary starting from sheep for England and cow for France.
All the year, activities of language were organized around colors with the creation of a color chart in French and in English.
Artists intervened in every school to work various pictorial technical.

Four travels on both sides of Manche took place.
The trip by plane and the dumping in the partner country were unforgettable for the children of both countries. The programs and the activities organized permit at each country to discover the culture of other one.
The results are very positive view to the investment and the interest of the children too the langage : desire to communicate and to be ask about another European lifestyle.
The teachers saw their implication increasing during 3 years by the project.
