Project Summary

Different Ways for Different Days (DW4DD): a partnership of organisations who passionately believe that creativity is a potent catalyst for community cohesion and change, exploring how we connect, inspire and motivate communities through Creativity. The project will explore how we use creativity to connect communities, enhance learning and develop inclusivity, looking at how working together as a group towards a common creative goal can develop confidence, motivation, self esteem and skills which are transferrable to many different areas of learning and which often result from long term isolation. This is particularly relevant in the current Covid-19 situation. The objectives of the project are to explore:
a) How creativity can create community cohesion: responding directly to current issues of isolation and insecurity and how we can bring people together in community activity which will inspire, motivate and reinforce community spirit.
b) How the creative arts can be used to increase access for disadvantaged and disabled people across Europe. It will work specifically with people who are seen to be disadvantaged and will include those who have disabilities (including learning disabilities, mental health issues, sensory or neurological impairment or are struggling with economic, geographic and social isolation). Often people will be struggling with multiple disadvantage.
c) How skills learned through creative learning can be transferred to other areas of learning, maximising the impact of that learning.

DW4DD will bring best practice to the fore, adopting a methodology whereby all partners are equally involved. Partners are all specialist organisations representing diverse creative methodologies. During transnational meetings practical exploration and discussion will allow the partners to research, explore, test and develop new ideas. Alongside this the Learning, Teaching, Training Activities will provide 48 arts workers/trainers/faciliators with the skills and knowledge to explore and test these ideas through practical creative workshops working with the learners from the host organisation.each LTT activity will explore the work of the host organisation and work towards a community event. It is envisaged that 50% of the trainers/facilitators on the LTT activities will be from disadvantaged backgrounds including those with disabilities (including learning disability), long term mental health issues, sensory or mobility issues. The project will be structured to allow Managers to attend both Managers meetings and LTT activities (with any additional costs covered by individual organisations) adding value to the project.
Transnational meetings will explore social cohesion; transferrable skills; how we engage disadvantaged individuals and communities; group work and dynamics and the role of the facilitator; current methodologies and best practice. The results will be disseminated through a dedicated project blog and social media sites, community events and presentations.
Learning Teaching Training Activities will enhance the skills of creative facilitators, trainers and arts workers so they are more better equipped to work within a community setting and more fully understand the use of creativity in community cohesion, individual progression and skills development.
The project will enable disadvantaged and disabled people to be more active both within their communities, inspire and motivate people who are currently inactive, who have struggled with isolation due to disadvantage, disability and or the current Covid-19 restrictions; create new opportunities for the participating organisations to expand their current programmes, creating new opportunities for both learners and staff: create new opportunities for other learners/staff in similar organisations to develop their practice through results being disseminated and exploited; enable participating organisations and those working within those organisations to progress within their field; improve language and communication skills of learners and staff involved in the project; add value to the existing debates on the use of creativity in community cohesion, skills development and inclusion; influence policy the use of creativity as a social tool.
In the longer term the partnership will provide a greater awareness of the role disadvantaged people can play in the social, economic and cultural life of their communities, contribute to the current national debates on the use of creativity in social arenas, bring a collective European perspective on access to learning for those who disadvantage (including learning disability) and a raised profile of the use of the arts as a tool for change.
