Project Summary

Digi Horti – digitization in horticulture
This strategic partnership for sharing good practice is about learning and working with digital horticultural opportunities.

The digital transformation requires educational policy change. The manpower has not just to have horticultural competences, but has to have far more competences. The concentration on the horticultural expertise is no longer sufficient. Digitization is the dominant topic in horticulture. Specialist conferences, training courses and further training courses are offered for trainees and specialists and are thus intended to qualify the profession for digital work on the construction site by intensifying the integration of digital media into the classroom with a focus on professional-specific software usage in typical gardening situations. The trainees should be trained, sensitized and strengthened to deal with the digital progress, to learn from it and to qualify for the job market. They are the specialists of tomorrow. The focus is on digital and social skills promotion. The digitization on the construction site is increasing and the handling of hardware and software has to be learned: digital timesheets, exchange of information in the company’s own clouds, creating calculations and presenting them to the customer, survey or plant determination, etc.

The aim of the project is to raise the awareness of teachers and learners in the use of new media, to train them in sector-specific programs, to broaden their expertise and to convey skills, knowledge and skills with a focus on digitization.

The cooperating partner schools have all different skills in horticultural and digital education. The digital media such as the benefits of the cloud and the various programs are already part of the classroom. The project should bring together the different digital competences and train trainees and teachers to become “digital experts” and multipliers, who can pass the knowledge at the home school and establish it sustainably.

The trainees can also become an expert and teach others. They change their perspective, create digital learning tools and guide their classmates. This promotes their social skills and strengthens them for the future profession, especially if they are seeking further qualifications such as master craftsmanship or something similar. They become independent, encouraged to learn independently and deepen their knowledge independently.

Qualifications become necessary in view of the shortage of skilled workers and ever-increasing digital work.
The project lays the foundations for digitization in horticulture and thus meets or challenges the requirements of the future “digital gardener 4.0” (-> “Digi Horti”). It increases the motivation of the future employees to continue their education in this field or they are one step ahead of other competitors. They expand competences for a possible independence, qualify for it and thus secure future jobs in the profession of horticulture.

The results are a variety of digital tools that can be used sustainably thanks to the cloud / exchange platform. It is this digital interaction that provides a solid foundation for future professionals. They are motivated at work, find easier access to digital innovations and are therefore good professionals to counteract the deficiency.
