Project Summary
The initiator of this project, La Source middle school, is located in Amnéville. It has been involved for several years in a process of European openness and obtained the 2019 EUROSCOL label. It has been involved in several Erasmus + actions, including two school partnerships. It welcomes students from 11 to 15 years old.
The city of Amnéville is located in Lorraine and very close to Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. Its population has been deeply marked by the migratory waves of the 20th century linked to the mining and steel industries.
The present project is aiming at a strong collaboration between 3 middle schools and a high school from 3 countries, having for main topic the European citizenship. It is part of a strategy from our establishment aiming at perpetuating lasting exchanges and/or partnerships. Thus, the Italian partner, Istituto IC Angiulli De Bellis, is already collaborating with the middle school La Source.
This project intends to contribute to the construction of an European identity and citizenship, at a time when we are witnessing, in many countries, shrinking identities and even xenophobia. However, nations and the European Union have been built for centuries by integrating and sharing cultural, scientific and technical contributions which, when crossing borders, have been adopted by the peoples.
There are many examples : architects have travelled across Europe, Italian painters went to Flanders and Flemish artists went to Italy. Scientific discoveries and tools invented here and there have spread everywhere.
These cultural movements have been accompanied by more or less numerous population migrations, sometimes driven by persecution or by the search for a better place to live.
Our partnership aims at looking at these exchanges which have enriched us, to research them, to study them.
It aims at showing the benefits for the populations and thus showing to the younger generations all the advantages they will have from embracing diversity.
3 main steps and 3 transnational learning activities are planned.
The first step consists in a research work, culminating in the creation of files in each of the countries, with examples of objects (works of art, monument, …) or cultures that can be found in our respective regions and which have been influenced by foreign cultures. This research will be supported by the sociology department of the University of Lorraine.
The second step aims at writing scenarios, relating to situations experienced by emigrants, immigrants or frequent travelers and which will be illustrated in theater scenes that will be performed in several languages by the students.
The last step will lead to the creation of a collective artistic work which will be the result of a collaboration involving all partners and all students of the targeted levels.
Each of these steps will be concluded by a transnational learning activity which will allow the pooling of the work carried out.
All the activities will aim at achieving the educational objectives expected in the school curricula of a middle school (the “common foundation” in France). This is the reason why two full levels will be targeted each year (5e and 4e in France). In addition, 2 professional classes (2nd in France) will be involved. Thus, teachers of various subjects will be able to integrate them naturally into their teaching : history-geography, civic education, languages, literature, science and technology, arts…
Our partnership aims at improving the learning of modern languages. Our students are learning English, German and Italian. The working language will be English, but Italian and French (for partners) may be used as well, in a multilingual approach.
Over 600 different students will be mobilized for one or two years. More than 120 student mobilities and more than 20 teachers mobilities are planned. Particular attention will be made to include pupils with special needs, whether they suffer from disabilities, cognitive difficulties or social difficulties. Thus, they will have priority to take part to a mobility.
Our partnership will use the Etwinning platform, for collaboration, the gathering of various productions and for the dissemination of our results.
Each partner will promote the widest possible dissemination of the project and its results by using their website, their digital workspace, written and audiovisual press, but also the media of their local authorities.
The project leader has got contacts within the press and the town of Amnéville’s TV channel.
The management and monitoring of the project will be ensured by steering committees created in each establishment and by consultations, approximately every two months, in the form of videoconferences.
