Project Summary

Facing with the arrival of a large number of migrants from diverse backgrounds, we chose to work on a project that could promote and encourage their reception in schools. Therefore we have proposed a wide variety of solutions, especially in terms of active pedagogy focused on tolerance, solidarity, equality and hospitality. It is about educating Aboriginal students by promoting the inclusion of migrants to avoid rejection, discrimination, racism and segregation.

We have therefore chosen to make our pupils aware of the cultural diversity brought by migration, and thus to fight off drop-out and early school leave of those young people, mostly from immigrant backgrounds, thereby facilitating intercultural dialogue and promoting equality. For this reason, we have focused on innovative practices promoting the motivation of the youngest people through a fun and interactive approach, edutainment and multimedia.

As a result a multimedia game will be the project’s final production.
The concept of the project is about virtual characters/players aboard hot air balloons drifting away across Europe slowly and randomly blown by the wind.
The objective of the game is to bring a hot air balloon to a strategic place on the plateau by winning “wind points”. The player will be able to blow in the direction he has chosen.
Wind points are obtained by responding to questions.
Questions will be about food and traditional dishes, music, video sketches, pictures. Each production will be influenced by key elements from countries participating in the project or countries of origin of migrants. In order to win the challenge, the player will have to recognize the influences of these by answering questions correctly.
Each school will therefore discuss and invite pupils to think upon with its students on the theme of migration (causes, consequences and perspectives).
The analysis of this theme will be an opportunity for productions that recall migration under different aspects ( poetic, literary, artistic).
Stories and interviews with migrant families will help to understand the complexity, the diversity of situations, the merging of cultures and their adaptability. The results of these workshops will be filed into images and will contribute to virtual wall of testimonials.
Each school will investigate cooking recipes, music, videos and videos illustrating the mix of cultures.
This reflection will be implemented during teachers’ and students’ mobilities. As in fact, a number of them will allow a host country to receive two other delegations and thus achieve binational or trinational productions.
At the same time, we will collaboratively think about the technical set up of the interactive game. Specific training will be provided to involve a majority of teachers and students (programming, computer graphics, management of multimedia channels).

As a result, different learning situations will be mixed together as to combine critical thinking, technical skills (creation of the multimedia game), artistic skills (theatre workshop) and social skills (inclusion).
Multicultural productions will be integrated into the game questions to be guessed and answered.
The project interactive game, along with all activities and productions will be presented during the Final Meeting in France, Pau.
