Project Summary

Project “E-LEARNING PROSPECTS FOR HUMANITIES – ELEPHANT” is being implemented by 5 universities from 5 European countries: UNIVERSITY OF SILESIA (Poland), UNIVERSITA DEGLI STUDI DI SALERNO (Italy), PRESOVSKA UNIVERZITA V PRESOVE (Slovakia), KAZIMIERO SIMONAVICIAUS UNIVERSITETAS (Lithuania), ZAPADOCESKA UNIVERZITA V PLZNI (Czech Republic).
The fast development of various ICT technologies is imposing new challenges on contemporary higher education. However, many academic teachers, even though they are aware of the need for creating open education, still remain very reluctant and reserved for new ICT technologies. This view dominates, in particular, among academic teachers who represent the field of humanities. That is why, it seems important and necessary to present academic teachers with numerous possibilities of the implementation of ICT in the field of humanities. The project will help overcome prejudices against e-learning, showing that the tools it offers can be very effective. Understanding new forms of didactics and their implementation in humanities by various European universities will not only contribute to the evaluation of the present condition of e-learning, but will also inspire the participants of the project to develop certain recommendations and good practices for distance learning. By adopting modern teaching methods to the requirements of students, academic teachers will develop and respond more adequately to the changing expectations of young people.
Main objective: Strengthening the cooperation between 5 partners’ institutions and increasing their internationalization through working out and disseminating new educational tools and exchange of good practices in the area of distance learning.
The specific objectives:
– Promotion of the idea of the use of ICTs and open educational resources in education at the higher education level
– Equipping academic teachers from 5 partner universities with modern didactic tools for students,
– Improving the knowledge of new technologies and interactive tools as educational means.
– Stimulating virtual forms of collaboration and communication.
Representatives of four groups will participate in the project:
1. Academic teachers
2. University staff who are involved in the organization and management of the didactics
3. PhD candidates who are involved in teaching in particular units
4. Students of the faculties of humanities (in Poland – 6/7 PQF)
Project ELEPHANT tests and implements innovative practices in the field of higher education.
The project activities consist of the following blocks:
– joint work out of three intellectual outputs (O1 – Joining the platform. E-learning in teaching humanities (report), 02 – Good practices for distance learning in humanities, 03 – Effective academic tools for distance learning (toolbox).)
– 2 3-days long learning visits for academic staff (Italy, Lithuania)
– dissemination events (6 workshops and 1 final conference)and other dissemination activities
– management & evaluation
The intellectual outputs will become widely distributed within the open-source license, which contributes to the resources of open education.
The project assumes that the created intellectual outputs will have a utilitarian and universal character, it will be available to academic teachers and students of various fields of study. This project will have a significant influence on the participating organisations, on its staff and on other teachers within the region, and last, but not least, students. Thanks to the involvement of partners from different countries and of different educational systems, we have an opportunity to collect different experiences and good practices at the end of the projects the outputs will have a universal, European dimension and they could be used not only in the partner countries. International cooperation will ensure a multicultural nature of the exchange of good practices, taking into account didactic experiences of universities from different regions of Europe. This project supports synergies between education, research and innovation activities and the digitisation of quality learning content and thus, will contribute to increasing the quality of education.
