Project Summary
Collaborative, inter-disciplinary, deep learning and excellence in education are essential factors for future knowledge-based societies. Teachers and learners need to meet the demands of the changing world both in terms of technology and educational reform. Effective cooperation between nations is integral in both teaching and learning. International mobility should be seen as an important added value for teacher career development as well as student progression and academic success. Our project aims at strengthening the cooperation between teachers and students in the partner schools and committing to cross-curricular topics. Students will have the opportunity to develop their critical approach to school subjects and enhance their skills in learning to learn.
In our earlier project we focused on a more targeted approach to address peer learning and innovative teaching methods. The positive results of our project convinced us that we wanted to build on our previous experiences and expand the notion of peer learning into a more holistic approach; into collaborative learning.
We feel that a new Erasmus+ project offers us renewed opportunities to continue to work on the above-mentioned objectives. This new project has considerable impact on our school communities.
We chose this project because, as a long-standing partnership, our collaboration allows us to continue to share good practices with each other and enhance the educational experience for all of us.
By drawing on the expertise of teachers in the partner schools, the project contributes to a wider understanding of deep learning, enhances teaching methodologies and breaks down social and cultural barriers. The project offers teachers and students new perspectives on education and learning strategies, and fosters an open mindset concerning European integration and mutual understanding.
The objectives of the project are:
– Promoting innovative practices for improved methodology and enhancing teachers’ professional development and integrating these competencies into our curricula. Lifelong, deep learning and creativity are essential for teachers so that they can respond to didactic demands, to the use of technological approaches and efficient educative resources.
– Dissemination of good practices.
– Fostering students’ critical thinking and deep learning in all subjects and promoting the acquisition of skills and key competences in e.g. maths, sciences and languages. We also want to put these subjects into an environmental and/or cultural context.
– Creativity is one of the most important competencies our students need to have in the future, and we want to support them in developing those skills through e.g. arts and music.
– To recognize the importance of the European dimension within our school communities.
Six secondary schools from 6 different countries are involved in the project. The staff and the students in the partner schools are greatly impacted by the project, although not all are directly involved in the activities. The project website and social media provide us with a platform to reach all educators, parents and students in the partner schools and on the pan-European stage.
Job shadowing and the joint-staff training events give the teachers involved in the project an invaluable opportunity to observe and share good practice on an international level. They are able to assess and improve their teaching methods, linguistic ability, cultural insight and they are able to share their experiences with their fellow educators. When returning to their home institutions, teachers were encouraged to apply their newly acquired skills, methods and knowledge of deep learning in class.
These new approaches to learning and teaching are beneficial for our students. Furthermore, through the different collaborative activities, students are given the opportunity to develop transversal skills, critical thinking, social competence and tolerance, improve their linguistic skills and acquire an open mindset. The project is not solely about academic learning, but also provides a unique experience on a personal and emotional level.
By carrying out our planned activities (several short-term exchanges of groups of students and joint-staff training events), we achieved our objectives for collaborative learning, team learning, and teachers’ professional development.
Erasmus+ program offered us an exceptional opportunity to live up to our potential as educators and provided our students with the key skills they need as successful and active members of society.
