Project Summary

21st century schools are rapidly evolving towards the digital age and can no longer engage all of their students, leading to a considerable number of disillusioned and disenfranchised pupils.

“Fighting misconceptions using collaborative and innovative drama techniques” has, as its aim, to be the cornerstone in encouraging a new enthusiasm for the basic learning of native and foreign languages; the development of new skills of expression and communication both written and oral, critical analysis and of boosting self-esteem and promoting a feeling of European citizenship via the discovery of culture and heritage from the three partner countries. Participating teachers will exchange successful techniques (pedagogy) and the resultant new interest in learning will manifest itself over time.
The project, which involves primary, middle and high school, has five partners: Alytaus Dzūkijos pagrindinė mokykla (primary/middle schools in Alytus in Lithuania), Liceul Teoretic Petru Maior (middle/high schools in Gherla in Romania), Chevagnes primary school (a single CM1/CM2 class in the Allier in France,) Jean Monnet High School in Yzeure in the Allier and François Villon Middle school also in Yzeure, Allier, France.
Theatre/drama and puppetry will be used to fulfill the objectives of this project and they will challenge the misconceptions in literature, cultural heritage and gastronomy. One hundred inter-country exchanges are expected for the staff and pupils from 9 to 17 years of age, from the primary school year 4 to the final school year (terminale). This project will ultimately involve 3000 students.
The e-twinning platform will be at the heart of these exchanges. The work will be done in French and in English. There will be three transnational meetings as well as multiple occasions to work within the framework of the primary, middle and high school liaisons.
Opportunities will arise from these transnational meetings where practical exchanges about teaching practices can be explored in conjunction with the workshops. These workshops will be directed by the external specialists in puppetry and drama and the project will culminate in a theatre performance which will involve the families and the local school community as a whole.

The project’s activities will be accessible on line and disseminated by the school sites and the local authorities.

Because of its aim to involve a wide age range, the project will develop a sense of belonging to a learning community, albeit an international one.
