Project Summary

We are five European schools united in offering a way of connecting environmental education to children who are mainly socially disadvantaged and don’t get the opportunity that other children do at their age. Most of the environmental problems are caused by people’s lifestyles and attitudes. We want to challenge these perceptions and use environmental education to support the process of transforming consciousness into knowledge and action. For this reason, we wrote this project to give students the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and change their perceptions. We plan to use environmental education, starting from the Small Steps at local, national and international level. The majority of our students who range from kindergarten to Secondary are taught in a prescribed curriculum and we want to use a child centered approach (ICLs) to empower them with their learning.
The project has 5 joint staff meetings for developing effective activities for students to apply locally, nationally and internationally. All participants in this project are united in a common desire to meet other colleagues, disseminate good practice, share common experiences, interests, activities and develop a teamwork ethic. Progress of the project was monitored through project meetings, e-mail communication, and other forms of social media e.g. conference calls. We want to communicate further with them and become familiar with other European cultures. We are aware that there will be many challenges but we are determined to overcome them together because we will work as a team. We want to Improve our quality of life without damaging the quality of life of future generations.
ACTIVITIES
In order to achieve all of these goals and to provide a stronger intercultural component of the project, we intend to encourage students’ sense of responsibility for the sustainability of the earth. The classroom journey that we are taking the children on is going to be led by them which will give them a purpose and a sense of worth, making a connection with learning. Through our detailed planning on the environment we will look at local, national and international environmental issues which will be enhanced by the user of IT. In the creation of our own school gardens, for growing, for sensory and for calmness, all the stakeholders can avail of it in each school in the project. Along with the training which will be shared with all partners and at a European level too.
For this reason, we have divided our project into five different modules:
1- Environment and Music 2- Environment and Resilience 3- Environment and Drama 4- Environment and Climate change 5- Environment and Recycling. By combining our planned activities with the achievements in our curriculum, we will expand the environmental issue in all areas and integrate it into our school policy. The Day to day management of the project on the multinational level and coordination of the information will flow between partners and overseen by the project coordinator. At the national level this coordination will be the responsibility of each project partner.
PARTICIPANTS
Our project on the integration of environmental education, climate change and recycling into different disciplines will encourage students, teachers, parents and all school personnel to become involved. Students are the main focus of our project even though students are not able to participate in mobility due to safety, they will play an active role in project planning, implementation and evaluation stages. They will be actively engaged in LTT activities in their own countries.
RESULTS
Our specific results relate, first and foremost, to achieving all the stated goals. Secondly, we strive to produce and collect all teaching materials such as – seminar materials, – student photo reports in paper and digital form.
– photos of students on exchange topics, feedback documents, various assessment tools, distribution materials such as newsletter, website, eTwinning platform space, -evaluation reports for each exchange, attendance certificates, etc.
IMPACT
All partner schools will gain great experience and knowledge as a result of this project. The resulting intellectual outputs of the project will be a multilingual, an educational program that will close the gap between European cultures, giving us a European dimension that we as citizens can make a difference to the environment even through ‘small steps’
We will share ideas, transfer knowledge, learn from each individual and observe the good and positive aspects of any system that can be accepted in our schools. Therefore, we will be more experienced and confident in applying for other future projects as we want to make this a regular practice. That is why the project will help our school become more active and operational on the European stage.
Together, we are creating a world where people live in harmony with nature.
