Project Summary
Context.
Having opportunities to increase one’s media literacy is integral part of freedom of expression, both in the sense of being able to use their voice with impact on society, as well as the complementary right to receive information which is truthful and relevant. Most students start their adult lives without opportunities to gain media literacy skills from the formal education system. Therefore, the „Medi@Digi“ project is created in order to increase the opportunities for development of critical thinking by the student population.
General objective
Promoting of media literacy in the formal education, as tool for development of personal competences of teachers and students to recognize diverse opinions, trough creating of measurable indicators for media literacy levels and stimulating a culture of critical thinking and democratic values.
Specific objectives
1. To foster a culture of critical thinking via education of the teachers and students on the detrimental impact of media manipulations on democracy and European values;
2. To increase capacities of partner institutions by improving the media literacy levels via joint engagement with state institutions;
3. To foster educational authorities to create curricula for media literacy that will be offered and incorporated in the classes for free activities;
Target group and users
Target groups and users of the project are partner institutions and teachers and students in the formal education of local level
Project activities:
The „Medi@Digi“ project will be realized through the contents of the following Group Activities:
1. Establishing of project management infrastructure.
2. Organizing of transnational meetings and multiplier events
3. Preparation of intellectual outputs
4. Continuous trainings
5. Project promotion and dissemination
Expected and realized results by the project
Through the implementation of the project activities it is expected for the following results (R) to be achieved, in quantified and qualitative form, as follows:
R1. „Analysis of current situation with media literacy of youth in the partner countries“ (O1).
R2. „Mapping of projects realized related to media literacy for youths in partner countries“ (O2).
R3. „Strategic guideline for general education in media literacy (Recommendation policy paper)“ (O3).
R4. Created educational e-contents
R5. Created official WEB site of the project
R6. Created official video of the project
R7. Trained and certificated 6 trainers for media literacy
R8. Trained and certificated 36 participants
R9. Printed promotional materials
Methodology
After ending of the training process, selected participants will able to prepare various educational e-contents: educational video clips, short clips suitable for publishing online and broadcasting on TV, interview with success young people digital stories in multimedia format, based on combining audio narration with visual elements in video format and graphic contents adapted to social media. All e-products by students will be published on the official WEB site.
Impact of the project
The project will provide support for partner organizations to become a watchdog of the issues related to „Medi@Digi“ objectives. These activities will improve diversity and quality of each partner organization to promote media literacy as basis for safeguarding the right of youth to hold diverse opinions, via stimulating a culture of critical thinking, pluralism of opinion and democratic values within their countries. This will increase opportunities for youth to actively participate in policy making at European level, as well for synergies with existing joint efforts, in particular of the field of realization of strategies of media literacy from EU countries.
