Project Summary
Our project arised from the need we detected in the four secondary schools on the priority of fighting against discrimination, bullying and violence. We shared the same needs around the fight against bullying in the classrooms and we thought it was very convenient to resolve this reality by going to peer mediation as a way to solve conflicts.
We considered granting a collaborative approach to the development of conflict resolution and mediation skills, since this teaching-learning strategy in the classroom educates in values of cooperation, solidarity and generosity. This project aimed to improve the competence in linguistic communication of students in a transversal way, enabling them to solve their difficulties through dialogue and the use of critical thinking without resorting to violent acts.
Our main objective was to develop a model of positive and peaceful coexistence with a preventive and educational character where the student is the main actor in the teaching-learning process.
The project was made up of four European schools, each one of them contributed specific and essential values to the development of the proposed activities. Each school contributed his own experience , the German school in cooperative work and peer mediation, the Polish school in the design of motivational teaching activities and mediation , the Swedish school in the use of ICT as a basis for the teaching-learning process of students and conflict resolutions, and the Spanish school added its experience in the development of linguistic competence, in Quality Assurance in education and in the management of European projects.
We have created a resource booklet with didactic activities focused on learning strategies to mediate and solve the most common school conflicts. This resource booklet is intended to help teachers and students work together to prevent conflicts, resolve them quickly, and allow students to develop their full potential and thus, succeed in school.
The methodology used in the activities is based on cooperative work techniques and has a purely communicative approach.
Every teaching activity follows the same pattern to help the teacher decide which resource will best suit their students’ needs. The materials have been designed to be editable and can be easily adapted to students from different countries and cultures.
We hope these activities are fun, active and powerful and will help create a safe, comfortable learning space as students come to know each other as resources, cooperative partners and friends.
