Project Summary

Present proposal has been conceived after observing that the professions related to the promotion of rural territories are not attractive to young people even though starting eco & agro-touristic businesses in the countries involved would help tackle the high rate of youth unemployment, the depopulation of rural areas, the growing internal and external migration and the deriving loss of cultural and eno-gastronomical heritage. This happens because non-formal educational paths in the field of eco & agro-tourism are not properly developed, while youth associations and CSOs are not aware of the economical and social potential of this field and consequently do not successfully train and support youngsters willing to start a business in rural areas. Rural tourism (Eco & Agro) has enjoyed strong growth in most of European Union and it has been widely promoted as an effective measure to counteract economic and social issues in rural areas.EARTH (Empowering young people in Eco- & Agro- Rural Tourism to Help local development) will contribute to empower youth NGOs in supporting rural communities and fostering the preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage in target areas through the achievement of two Specific Objectives: 1) Partner organisations will be trained to develop initiatives and strengthen capacities in creating and sharing non-formal educational paths, new tools and methods within the field of eco&agro-tourism. This will be achieved by involving 18 staff members from the six countries in: 2 Study Visits on the notions and promising examples of agro & eco-tourism; a Training Course on the non-formal education methods applied to Eco&Agro-tourism and an International Workshop on the creation of dissemination material & tools (toolkit, website & App) to promote youth entrepreneurship in the mentioned field. 2) The Consortium will raise awareness and inform youth NGOs and youngsters about the enhancement and preservation of rural territories and the economic & social potential of agro- and eco-tourism. This will be achieved by involving 30 volunteers in a Youth Exchange on the preservation of rural territories through eco&agro-tourism; 18 staff members of the Consortium in an International Workshop on the use of the ICT instruments previously developed (website & App); 120 youth workers in two Country Workshops per country for local youth NGOs staff to disseminate the produced educational material & ICT tools and 270 youngsters in three Awareness-raising Events per country on the possibilities of youth self-entrepreneurship related to eco- & agro-tourism. The material produced (toolkit, website, App, tutorial) will be available for free as Open Educational Resource also after the end of the project. The organizations of the Consortium work permanently in youth field and will then continue to involve more and more young people coming from the targeted community, while the toolkit and ICT tools will be long-lasting learning instruments.
