Project Summary

We want our students to become “active European citizen” in a world shaped by science-based technology in promoting their international openness, the mathematics and sciences skills and the 21st Century skills “collaborate, the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies)”. Indeed, nowadays, mathematics and sciences play key roles to make decisions to complex economic, social or environmental problems. So, all citizens and all students “need to be able to confront science-related dilemmas not just future scientists and engineers” (PISA 2015 results focus report).

4 European schools from France, Estonia, Italy and Iceland will exchange and disseminate pedagogies and practices in order to develop the interest of pupils in maths and sciences and to make teachers more confident in teaching these subjects, especially in using technologic tools and in developing collaboration. About 14 teachers or teacher trainers and 200 pupils from 5 to 11 years will be intensively involved in the project. All schools will contribute in different areas of expertise to the project. Thus, this project will promote good practices and new teaching methods such as ACE-ArithmÉcole, “mental geometric”, computer science, robotic, CLIL, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) or outdoor learning.

In addition, we also expect to develop internationalization of schools and European citizenship skills of teachers and students in involving them in eTwinning projects and in using CLIL method (Content and Language Integrated Learning).
During the teachers’mobilities, after a theoretical presentation of the different methods and jobshadowings, teachers will build together pedagogical scenarios to promote target skills in eTwinning project and then experiment it in their classes.

At the end of the project, an eBook will be published with the presentation of the teaching methods and all the pedagogical scenarios. The ultimate goal is to renew the teaching methods and to develop the quality of teaching, especially in the priority school fields such as maths, science and the use of ITC. So, the results of the projects should be shared with all teachers in the participating schools and partly be integrated in the curriculums of the involved schools. The teacher trainers will use these materials for their training and disseminate the results to others teachers of the district or region.
The pupils will also produce a lot of concrete results in their eTwinning projects. All the main activities of this projects will promote the target skills. For example, they will make a collaborative game in using Schratch (coding), they will write a collaborative eMagazine about the fauna and the flora of the partners countries, they will design posters about eSafety….
Each teacher intensively involved will apply for national quality labels each year. These applications will give us an external assessment by independent experts and a recognition of the quality of the work made by students and teachers.

All the schools ’communities and local newspaper will publish articles to disseminate the project. They organize events such as the International day of mathematics or exhibitions to present the results of the project to parents. Schools will participate to the Erasmusdays to contribute to the development of Erasmus+ project in their region. Finally, all the details of eTwinning projects activities and results will be available in the Twinspaces and published in the Erasmus+ result platform.

Thus, eTwinning projects and staff training will contribute to develop the international opening and provide the schools with greater visibility and prestige in the local area. The obtention of the eTwinning school label should be an important goal after these two project years. This label is a good way to enhance the visibility of the school at national level and international level.
After the end of the project, the schools could continue their partnership in collaborating through projects and in carrying on the exchanges about the new methods and the scenarios thanks to eTwinning groups.
