Project Summary
In this project, all three partners hosted of the pupils’ exchanges. Eight pupils and two teachers from each participating country met every time for one week. Pupils were in the age of 12-15 years (grades 6-9). During the exchanges, participants learned more about the country in which they were guests, about its culture, but the exchange was focused on important festivals, traditions and its history. Pupils visited the partner school in the exact time of celebrating the tradition. Easter in Germany at the beginning of April 2016, Christmas in the Czech Republic in December 2016 and Wedding in Hungary in March 2017. All participants did not only learn about the tradition, but they mainly lives the tradition. They prepared decorations or cooked and baked typical festive food themselves. They learned some dances, songs or poems related to the traditions.
A common logo was designed in the logo contest taking place in all classes of participating schools. This led also to the promotion of the project among the pupils and to the motivation to participate in the project.
Pupils have produced PowerPoint presentations about their school, town, region and country and presented them during the pupils’ exchanges. After each exchange, they produced a “big” presentation about the festival, its similarities and differences in all participating countries, they described typical customs and included video sequences taken during the exchange. The presentations are in English.
Before going on exchanges, pupils learned how to use the PowerPoint program, how to create a presentation, how to cut and include video sequences and how to present a presentation to the public. They also learned important vocabulary related to the traditions in English lessons.
Pupils tried different Arts and Crafts during the exchanges, they worked with different materials, tried different professions such as cooking, baking, decorating or wood or metal processing. This should have motivated students to think about their future life and about their choice of profession.
All presentations and some of little products were showed at the final exhibition, which was organised in each country.
