Project Summary
This project intends to address gender discriminations and inequalities that affect both boys and girls, men and women in several areas of life and somehow make people aware of the importance of including this issue in the core matters of schools curricula. As the curricula of formal education in the partner countries (except for Portugal) do not have a compulsory space/moment to introduce the discussion of gender questions and other forms of inequalities of power which lead to social asymmetries, this project tries to foster a change in schools by ensuring an effective gender mainstreaming in education. To achieve this goal a network of trainers and trainees (peers) will be created in the partners’ schools dealing with the subject of gender equality. This will be done using two different areas: scientific to create activities and lesson plans that eliminate gender inequality inside our schools and furthermore in our local community, and practical, by sharing relevant practices in what concerns the topic.
We aim at promoting new pedagogical strategies, methods and materials to be used in the classroom of the partner schools to foster equality between boys and girls, men and women. Achieving gender equality is central to the protection of human rights, the functioning of democracy, respect for the rule of law and economic growth and sustainability. ” (Council of Europe, 2015b, p. 5).
We aim at making the community aware of the gender equality problem and to actively take part in the solution. In the different stages of this project, we will have the participation of stakeholders, especially the parents’ associations as well as the local authorities of each school.
We also aim at developing basic and transversal skills, such as entrepreneurship, digital skills and multilingualism, using innovative and student-centred pedagogical approaches. Finally we aim at actively involving students with special educational needs so that they have equal opportunities along with their peers.
Activities were designed to achieve the objectives of the project having in mind the need to develop entrepreneurship (making videos; news programmes) autonomy (linguistic/ICT- tasks performed in English; PPT presentations, using Facebook, YouTube, eTwinning); citizenship; European Cultural dimension and identity (understanding cultural diversity in transnational meetings).
The quality of the consortium was also a requirement in order to ensure the quality of the project. The Coordinator and two partners attended a seminar on «Project management for cross-cultural exchange projects in Europe» and their expertise will improve the quality of the partnership. The expertise of the partners selected was complementary to the needs of the project.
All the work is based on an ongoing effective cooperation and communication between partners using different communication technologies.
Monitoring and evaluation will be used in the continuous process of assessing the progress made towards stated objectives, so that gaps between the original project plan and the actual achievements can be identified and corrected.
An external evaluator will be invited as a “critical friend” to add positive value and to contribute to the credibility of the evaluation process.
A detailed dissemination plan was designed to promote an ongoing exchange of information. In the creation of a shared resources section in our website and the posting of the outputs of the project activities anticipates that the project will help to raise awareness and will contribute for enhancing gender equality across Europe. Other institutions and stakeholders will get their information as well as open access to resources developed through the project via website and Web networking tools created by the Partnership. Other channels of dissemination will be used (newsletters, workshops, conferences, newspapers, a training Guide on tackling gender equality supervised by a University Professor which will be publish.
The visibility and sustainability of the project will be assured by all the dissemination activities (maintaining and updating Webpage…).
