Project Summary
The idea of this project comes from the desire to learn about Europe in a more practical and experience-based way. Traditionally, the geography of Europe is studied in textbooks or, in luckier contexts, with the aid of internet resources. We fear that the geographical concepts thence acquired fail to attain the emotional, personal area of knowledge which only allows pupils to use that information for better understanding of the world where they live.
This project will give four European schools residing in diverse geomorphological areas the rare chance to literally walk or cycle the territories, compare their characteristics, meet the people who live there and find out about common heritage and different cultures. The schools are good representatives of the west as well as of the east, of the north as well as of the south, of the hot, Mediterranean sun as well as the cold northern winds. Beside its main objective, this project will give our pupils a unique chance to use their creativity, improve and use their L2 competences and enhance their Information Technology skills to create bonds across Europe and develop deep awareness as European citizens.
We believe this project will give us the opportunity to broaden our horizons for better understanding and true acceptance of diversity in all of its forms (gender, cultural, religious, economical). It will permit teachers to confront with different educational systems and didactics as well as to acquire expertise in the management of international cooperation projects.
