Project Summary

This Erasmus + K229 project called “Europe is us” has been conceived as an essential complement for the previous projects carried out by our high school located in Yecla, Murcia.
IES José Luis Castillo Puche High School in partnership with Lycée Sainte Marie located in Cholet, France, aims at the development and continuity of their educational offer internationalisation. In our high school throughout the Multilingual section we encourage not only the English and French learning as foreign languages, but also our goal is to foster our European dimension.
Foreign language communication is one of the eight key competences established by the Commmon European Framework for Reference of Languages, and a fundamental teaching element for the two educational centres involved in this project, whose main aims are the following:
-Offer the students the chance of using a foreign language in situ they have studied for 4 years.
-Transfer students’ theoretical knowledge into real linguistic and cultural experiences.
-Develop social and civic competences.

Every participant in this project such as teachers, host families and students will go in depth in the European social and cultural diversity, by working together in order to overcome cultural differences between Spain and France and to prepare students as European citizens belonging to the European Common Market. Thus, this long-term mobility provides the necessary Spanish and French language learning to certificate a B2 level for both languages.

Teachers’ involvement from both schools in this European project is focused on improving language teaching competences and on methodology, linked to learning and teaching activities organisation and development within different educational systems. For this purpose, Project Based Learning, cooperative learning and online resources together with eTwinning platform will be essential to encourage students to research and work cooperatively, as well as to develop their digital competence, autonomy and skill to take decisions and reach agreements in different cultural backgrounds.
Teachers’ will not be only content providers but also they will guide students while they are doing the project activities and taking decisions to complete them. By exchanging their teaching experiences, teachers from both institutions will work towards the teaching quality and innovation, aimed at the excellence of the educational process and environment.

This project is composed by four main activities which are four long-term study mobilities with a three-month duration each, scheduled along 24 months. Five students from IES José Luis Castillo-Puche and other five students from Lycée Sainte Marie, together with a teacher for the first days, will move for each mobility.

Students during the mobility will experience a complete cultural and linguistic immersion in a European country different from theirs what will make them become actors and promoters of the intercultural dialogue by attending lessons included in the learning agreement. In the case of Spanish and French as foreign language lessons, students will show both daily life cultural habits and important institutions and organization of their society. By living with a host family, students will develop their tolerance and adaptation to a different European environment.
Students’ sense of belonging to European community will be fostered before, during and after the stay with the help of the eTwinning project “Compartir, comunicar, aprender / Partager, communiquer, apprendre”.

Both participating students and their classmates will record videos and prepare questionnaires on topics such as history and geography, traditional and modern music, daily life, school organisation, environmentally-friendly actions, Spanish and French languages and dialects. Furthermore, students will reflect on the importance, reasons and advantages of learning foreign languages and their conclusions will be published on an online infographic.
This project main results will be the following:
– Students’ French and Spanish linguistic competence improvement
– Development of their state of European citizens.
– Acquisition of values which promote the social inclusion and tolerance, as well as they refuse any practice of discrimination.
– Predisposition and interest in multilingual learning by educational communities of both schools.
– Encouragement to formal education and employability in a common European context.

Erasmus + by means of this project will allow us to to share and discover our European cultural heritage, opening our schools and classrooms for diversity and increasing the sense of belonging to a common Europe. Shortening distances, strengthening links with our neighbours and making friends by breaking borders.
