Project Summary

The project is born from three european schools’ desire to make their young pupils acquire a common European culture and a citizenship firmly anchored and nourished by discovery of the local cultural heritage of each of the partners.

The general aim of the project is to encourage pupils to go and discover first their own local history and heritage and then to travel abroad to discover the parteners’ local heritage. The pupils will discover their own cultures, and will discuss differences and similarities and what differentiates or bring people together. This process should help them to become European citizen.

To do so, we have decided to work on a global project developping collaborative working between the pupils and betweeen the teachers, the use of digital tools and a Twinspace to facilitate exchanges between the parteners during the project, the partnership with local cultural institutions and pupils’ mobility to the countries involved in the project so that interculturality is experienced within the schools . Families will also be included in the project and associated to the activities linked to the moiblity of children (coming from abroad or travelling abroad) as we want them to consider mobility as a chance for their children.

Pupils aged from 8 to 10 who are not used to travelling on their own territory and abroad are the target of the project. Those pupils from one or two different classes for each school will go and visit one different country. They will get a full preparation before they leave, they will be taken in charge by the host country pupils who will organise the discovery of their local cultural heritage for them.
When abroad, the pupils will work with their european schoolmates on material to be shared in their school afterwards (photo exhibition, videos, guides for travellers etc…).
All the activities carried out for the project in each participating school will be planned with the partners via the Twinspace created for this purpose and shared in the schools and with the parents in convivial moments.

The project is designed to encourage the schools to develop interculturality and thus to give pupils the opportunity to experience a mobility while at primary school so that they can go abroad for longer stay during their future studies. Working with the parents is also part of the project and a key to success for the pupils : inviting the parents to all the special events linked to the project and involving them into activities while the European schoolmates are here will contribute to establish trust and cooperation between parents and teachers. for future mobilities during to teach young people to trust each other, to discover their own cultures, and to understand what differentiates and what brings people together.

Concerning the pupils the expectations are the acquisition of greater autonomy, the capacity to decide and to make suggestions , the development of transversal skills related to the use of digital technology, the practice of a foreign language thanks to the exchanges via the Twinspace for 2 years and to the mobility and to project-based learning.

The Academy of Caen has made the international opening of schools one of its priorities so that all young people in Normandy can experience international travel during their educational time . This project is in line with that goal.
