Project Summary

The idea for the EurEPO project (European Project for the Implementation of Early Professional Orientation from grade 5) was born during a student exchange between Erpeldange, Weiskirchen and Kdyne.
The school in Kdyne will become more active in professional orientation in the coming years (new concept of the regional administration and the Czech Ministry of Education).
In Erpeldange, too, the school management is of the opinion that professional orientation should start at primary school.
Weiskirchen has been focusing on professional orientation for several years now and is the holder of the professional choice seal. Here the focus is currently more on grades 7-9.
This led to the idea for the present project with its approach and focus on grades 5 and 6, whereby the higher grades are also to be included.
We got to know the school from Segre at an Erasmus contact seminar. The Eichenlaubschule and the Peter Dewes Gemeinschaftsschule work together within the framework of an upper school association.
The aims of the project are a better professional orientation and thus a prevention of early school leaving and youth unemployment, as well as an increased cooperation between schools and companies in order to offer their own students better opportunities on the regional labour market.
In order to better prepare the pupils for working life and to achieve a higher identification with their region of origin, the project aims to create job descriptions usable in all subjects in the form of short videos (approx. 3-4 min) which will be made available for all partner schools.
In addition, projects are to be developed in cooperation with regional companies, which will then carry out the students of the individual schools on an annual basis (baking bread, making sausages, agriculture, and possibly others).
The focus of the projects will be on the area of “handicraft”, also in view of the currently emerging shortage of skilled workers in this field in particular.
The third component of the project will be the creation of tutorials on the use of specific tools.
The project meetings are to be attended by 5-7 students and 2 teachers per school. Within the framework of these meetings, the students should then carry out the planned projects in the partner companies. This is to achieve the European idea as well as the regional reference.
The projects are planned and coordinated through regular exchange between the schools. The job descriptions and tool tutorials that are created are also determined via video conferences, email, telephone, etc. These should also have a curriculum reference in all participating countries so that they can be used in future years of this age group. A further development of project contents in the higher classes, for example in the form of student companies, is also conceivable.
This early contact with the world of work and European partners should open up the students’ perspective to the European idea. The primary goal, however, is an early start in professional orientation in order to facilitate the transition into the working world after leaving school and to support the students in deciding on their future career.
The results will be published on a separate website. The project will also make use of the possibilities of e-twinning.
