Project Summary
The project aims to develop skills in the field of mechatronics using innovative methods. The needs to which our project responds result from the lack of appropriate educational tools used in technical and vocational secondary schools. The goal of our activities is to develop an innovative educational tool – an online platform that will enable students to acquire new competences, knowledge and practical professional experience in the field of mechatronics, and will enable them to contact and exchange experiences with teachers and students from other EU countries. Prepared online vocational courses are primarily addressed to vocational school students who are studying in mechatronics and want to apply for a place in mechatronics studies, for students who want to make up for their educational shortcomings, but also to other people interested in improving their qualifications and getting a job in a profession where mechatronics knowledge is used.
The mechatronics field is one of the most attractive fields of technical studies, enabling graduates to perform a satisfying job in their learned profession, especially nowadays, when numerous international concerns and local enterprises operating in the area of knowledge-based economy are constantly opening up. In the next few years, the industry will require highly qualified staff that will meet the requirements of the economy, which is why our goal is to support students, expand their knowledge and competences.
During the needs analysis, which we conducted together with our partners, we examined the needs of students in Poland and in partner countries. We came to the joint conclusion that such a forward-looking direction which is mechatronics requires intensified work at the school level as well as providing additional development opportunities. The needs of students result from the insufficient level of education in technical schools and the lack of necessary educational tools. Our project in its innovative form will allow students with fewer opportunities to acquire skills and qualifications that are unattainable due to the lack of sufficient financial support from parents and the school. Less opportunities often result from a much lower level of education offered by schools in smaller towns.
During the project, an on-line platform will be developed containing courses, tutorials, instructions, a forum for exchanging experiences, lesson plans, as well as teaching materials for
independent work of the student. The platform will be developed during the next stages of the project (user needs analysis, implementation of demo version, tests, feedback)
from users, usability and substantive research) so that our final result is the culmination of the work of experts, users and other people taking
participation in the venture.
The project assumes, among others, conducting a programming course on the basis of which platform users will master the issues of operating data reading equipment, e.g.
counters that will allow them to move on to the next stages of the course, including CAN support, and then to write programs that will combine and handle the data they collect and
messages.
Trainings and courses will be divided into short theoretical lessons during which issues to be learned in the form of films, descriptions and presentations will be presented. Undergoing training for users with the knowledge necessary to pass the course. The courses will be divided into lessons during which students will take courses and pass them in stages. The courses are focused on acquiring practical knowledge. During the course, everyone will have to create a prototype root or other device.
The possibilities created by the implementation of our tool can also be the foundation for further developing our idea by, e.g. developing training courses for
teachers who by developing their competences and professional qualifications will be able to influence the improvement of the quality of education and promote the results of our project
in the region. The project will contribute to expanding innovative teaching methods, developing contextual teaching methods. In addition, it will promote the expansion of language and IT knowledge among all participants and will allow to acquire new skills through innovative learning methods. The use of tools will ensure wider and easier access to vocational training in the field of mechatronics.
Project results: the materials and tools we create will be available free of charge – the project aims to raise the level of teaching in technical schools and create opportunities for students’ self-education, because the courses we offer are available online.
