Project Summary
The project ‘Exploring Heritage and Future Prospects in Aschaffenburg and Perth’ was supposed to strengthen the relationship between the twin cities of Aschaffenburg und Perth and maybe even lead the existing relationship in a new direction. However, due to the Corona pandemic, we could not really get the project going in terms of a (virtual) interaction between the schools – so the project results were solely created by the pubils of Friedrich-Dessauer Gymnasium.
One of the main goals was to look at the past, the present and the future of the cities with regards to city twinning and the role of the EU. Senior citizens were supposed to be part of the project (as contemporary witnesses) – but Corona put an end to the possibility of visiting elderly people in senior citizens residencies. There was also no way possible to put up a virtual exchange. Students became creative and interviewed some other people instead such as Frau Connor who is the person responsible for Aschaffenburg’s twin cities.
Another goal was to create a website – and if possible an app – that should have shown the stories of the contemporary witnesses, focused on the attractions of the twin cities and its cultures. The website (in English and German) is not quite finished yet, but already displays a lot of content. The FDG students will continue to work on it until the beginning of 2022.
Future prospects were explored by the students through research, presentations and individual interests.
The project not reach the depth that was aimed at due to Corona.
