Project Summary
This project aims at making an inventory of the discrimination against women, in the professional and political worlds, in the partner countries. The partner institutions are located in socially disadvantaged areas of the European Union. All together, they will propose solutions to fix that situation, thanks to digital tools that will authorize an online publication (podcasts, Wikipedia biographies, graphic designs, project website) and also a physical exhibition that will allow a local dissemination of their work. Thus, we work for social inclusion, we fight school drop out and we teach digital tools and at the same time, we will open up students to different cultures.
The COVID 19 health crisis made it more difficult to carry out some of the activities and the closure of the project
Many activities were achieved: the activities at the beginning of the project, during and between the motilities were carried out with the creation of the project logo and slogan, interviews, the creation of the podcast platform, the meeting with notorious women, the Wikipedia articles proposals, the letter to a woman in English.
First, we hosted our partners in Marseille, Afterwards, we traveled to Galati, Romania and then to Mazzarino, Italy. We made a presentation of all our works in every country and we carried out the activities during the mobilities
However, the March lockdown has impacted the last planned activities. Indeed, the letter to a woman was carried out distantly with the students and only by some students. The group dynamics did not allow for distance work. In addition, our students were not all equal in terms of digital equipment. It was therefore difficult to carry out the work requested by all the students.
At the same time, the students had started to prepare the last mobility (finding accommodation for our partners, preparing the exhibition). It was to take place in May 2020. The health crisis prevented the physical arrival of our partners. We therefore opted for a remote work. We have maintained the link with our partners by email, WhatsApp and by videoconference. An equipment (2 WebCam) was ordered in May in order to continue the exchanges, even virtually. The project was supposed to end in May but a 6 month delay was granted to complete the activities.
During the completion of some activities, we did not measure certain requirements, notably concerning the Wikipedia charter. Indeed, in France, we encountered difficulties with the recognition of the interviewees: they had to be recognized nationally and the search for a national publication proved impossible for some of them. Wikipedia therefore removed the online publication and asked us to make changes. Our partners chose to enrich existing publications.
All the activities took place according to our schedule with our students. As the hour dedicated per week was not sufficient, we solicited the students outside of their school time.
As far as the results are concerned, we can affirm that the objectives of the project were achieved. Indeed, the various activities around gender equality in the professional world have raised awareness among all students, all nations combined. They were able to work in mixed teams and in English, using digital tools. They discovered other cultures thanks to mobility and exchanges via social networks. The meetings between students and teachers helped to create links. Some students are still in contact as well as some teachers via social networks.
In addition, the activities have allowed students and teachers to progress on the digital and English language. Awareness raising on gender equality showed cultural differences between countries but some students realized the possibilities of each one. Everyone was able to adapt, to value their work, to learn from practices in other countries and to share research work. The coordination of the project allowed a quality and enriching work for the 3 countries.
In the longer term, the fact of communicating about these projects on the schools’ websites, on Twinspace, the project website on Framasite (https://gender-equality-at-work.frama.site/), on the various events organized at the school (Erasmus Days, mobility with partners, open days and testimonials from students and teachers) allows new or future students to be attracted to our schools. The promotion of the different European projects allows for an open-mindedness.
