Project Summary
The orientation to career and study becomes increasingly important because of the growing diversity of vocational trainings and study courses in Europe. At higher secondary schools in the EU, the systematic anchoring of concepts for orientation to career and studies has only played a minor role, thus far. Up to now, orientation to career has been a domain of vocational institutions. By our project we intend to develop concepts for orientation to career and studies, respectively to foster the development. These concepts are supposed to be integrated in the curricula of the participating schools and to encourage other schools to do something similar.
The Progymnasium Altshausen as coordinating school possesses already a concept for the orientation to career and studies, although without a European dimension. Das Progymnasium has been awarded with the BORIS-Certificate and wants now to improve and enhance the concept. The participating schools want to develop and implement their own concepts basing on the suggestions and already existent modules.
With our project we see a chance
– to assist pupils (and their parents) with choosing their study course or their career,
– to coordinate our teaching lessons more closely to nowadays vocational requirements in the changing labour market
– to supply companies with qualified and skilled specialists (incentive function).
Higher secondary schools bear a major responsibility, especially with regard to the coalescence of Europe.
The orientation to career and studies in school lessons is not only of economically relevant, but it is also part of our educational mandate.
