Project Summary

This project “Fostering Resilience for a Changing World”, has been conceived in response to the impact on children of growing up in the digital age. The rapid evolution in technology means that, governments, local authorities and schools leaders are constantly required to respond to new challenges at all stages of education. We are acutely aware that we must not only respond to the changes, but respond to the fact that the world will continue to change and children need to develop the flexibility to adapt quickly. Working collaboratively with our European partner schools, we will share what we’re doing to equip children for the future, at a time of unprecedented technology-driven change. We have identified three strands to this project. Firstly, digital facility: learning about technology and with technology. Secondly, enterprise: how do we nurture the transferrable business skills and innovative thinking that will equip our children for the workplace of the future? Thirdly: mental and physical well-being: we will share practice on how we support emotional resilience well-being as children are exposed to new pressures and dangers at an increasingly early age and we will consider the impact of digital technologies on children’s physical health.

Exchange leaders will meet at the co-ordinating school at the beginning of this project to discuss practice and pedagogies. The four schools of the Wyvern Federation will each act as joint hosts and then organise teacher exchange visits to the partner schools. Arrangements will be made to share practice relevant to all three strands including lesson observations, interviews with senior and specialist staff, exhibitions and pupil voice. Each day’s observations will be included by a discussion of comparative practice and where possibilities might exist to adapt and implement methodologies into different settings. Each exchange visit will be followed by a debriefing and feedback on how to fine-tune the following visit to maximise the learning benefits to all three schools. At the end of the exchange, there will be a conference with representatives of all schools to summarise findings, evaluate the work undertaken and publish it digitally to circulate to all schools. A dedicated website will be set up for the programme. Here, participants will be invited to publish reflective blog posts on the three strand of the project. Twitter will also be used to disseminate information.

It is envisaged that the project will enable the participants to share not only the challenges of teaching in the digital era, but also the opportunities and benefits to both teachers and students. Participants of partner schools will have a portfolio of innovative practice to take back to their schools and share with staff and pupils. Given that the project has three distinct strands of research, it is hoped that one of these may be selected for future collaboration between the three schools snd new partners.
