Project Summary

The high school Alain Colas de Nevers and its European section English / Cinema-Audiovisual have applied for a European scholarship to allow that their partnership with Priestley College Warrington, which began 9 years ago, despite the decline of the means in Nièvre and within the National Education, in a project approach that consists of advancing its young Nivernais from a rural area in full economic downturn, in their speech in English, in the opening of their journey to the international, in the open their mind to another culture, and in their ability to communicate through new technologies.

It was to allow 40 students of high school Alain Colas to go into immersion at their partner two consecutive years, to present themselves to them in the form of a presentation, to report on this trip by articles (newspaper, site of the option www.moviegoer.fr), films produced in a French-English collaboration, and by the writing of a report in English whose evolution between the first and second year in terms of expression and content, had to be evaluated: academic, confirmed, expert.
The French students participating in this project were to be primarily those of the European classes English / Cinema-Audiovisual. Each French student was to be associated with an English pair for the duration of the stay and therefore attended the courses of it, and would be hosted by hosts on Chester.
The choice of December, English and French side, came from the fact that both are in high school and the first trimester is more conducive to long-term stays (10 days) than the second (white bins, tests anticipated) and third trimesters (baccalaureate examinations). The month of December also allowed French students to discover the customs and customs of England in the run-up to the Christmas holidays and to make a proposed comparison to the writing of their report on this theme as well as that of the educational systems.

However only one stay took place.

Indeed, on two occasions, for reasons which belong to him, the direction of the high school Alain Colas, legal representative, did not present the project ERASMUS PLUS
– June 2017 turnover, which made it difficult to organize the first stay, as announced in the agreement, to take place in December 2017 (return on December 24th because of the limited time left for CA reservations). placed in September, some planned cultural outings did not take place),
– with the turnover of June 2018 making impossible the organization of the second to the organization of which were granted only 2 months (turnover placed on October 1, 2018) whereas a stay like this one requires 6 to 7 months of anticipation.
However the first stay was successful and a large part of the objectives achieved:

– several cultural outings in London and Wales during the first 5 days allowed French students to be comfortable speaking English and content with their English duo with whom they had real topics of conversation concerning their visits and English customs in comparison with French ones, one of the themes of their final report;

– the follow-up of the courses and the activities made it possible to discover their contents, to progress in their capacity to understand English, to compare the English and French educational system, one of the themes of their final report;

– the realization of shots in collaboration with the English binomials of which several were also in cinema, allowed to discover the English language in its technical aspects

– the teachers were able to discuss their practices and the question of the evaluation of the oral but also of the final report of the pupils and its evolution from the first to the second year

– the reports were written in English at Priestley, during the last half day before the departure dedicated to a reflection conducted on customs and educational systems French / English

– February 2 at 18h, the meeting report was organized with parents, students and accompanying persons to share about the stay (the headmaster of the high school Alain Colas could not make himself available for this meeting and asked his deputy to represent it); films, reports, articles, have been shown; everyone was able to express themselves and specify their expectations for the second stay.
