Project Summary

Project: “From The Forest To The Sea!”
From this project took part 4 basic educational institutions from 4 different European countries – Estonia, Portugal, Romania and Belgium. They all teach children from age two to seven years.
In kindergarten our teachers are setting the bases for children’s thirst for knowledge and for curiosity. For that the teachers must be innovative, creative and be able to make learning fun and natural part of children life. To be able to do that, the teachers also need the knowledge about new active teaching methods and share good practices.
The project objective was to use traditional stories to teach and learn through innovative methods. We used new method (inquiry-based teaching) and familiar methods (outdoor education, discovery learning) to enhance children motivation to be active learners and in the same time increasing teachers professional competences. In the process we learned about other European countries culture, traditions and education and were more aware about our European Community.
Content of the project was that each partner institution translated 2 traditional stories (one on forest theme and one on sea theme) and shared them with others. Then all the partners had time to use the stories in their everyday work with the children. On project meetings all the partners prepared good examples from inquiry-based teaching and outdoor educational activities. Through project blog (http://fromtheresttothesea.blogspot.com/) all the pictures, good examples, videos and events are visible for others. In the end of the project 4 e-books of activity plans were put together and are downloadable from our blog!
The added value of the project was the possibility to carry out it transnationally and to learn and share with teachers from different countries, educational systems and cultural backgrounds. Through the project we were able to change all our partner institutions staff attitudes towards active teaching methods and were able to increase the quality of teaching.
