Project Summary
The main context of the project is to exchange good practices in education within special schools across Europe by completing international school visits for staff . Every partner will need to reflect and, whenever possible actively promote the overarching aims of the council of Europe in the field of Special Educational needs, in particular strengthening the profile of the teaching profession and promoting the acquisition of skills and competencies in particular:
the deepening of mutual understanding among citizens in Europe, respect for diversity of cultures and ways of life, the protection and promotion of linguistic and cultural diversity and the development of the language learner.
Up to 14 participants will be taking part in this project. All staff will be included within the school community, which includes caretaker, office staff, teaching assistants, high level teaching assistants, teachers and senior leadership including governors. The wider community of the school includes parents, multi agencies e.g social services, physio therapist, speech and language therapist. Also other special schools, Behaviour units and Special resource bases within our cluster as we lead their schools as a pioneer school for our consortium EAS. Also our pupils are included within local business’s for work experience and therefore are included within our groups of participants. Also within the area of learning language and literacy and communication as our pioneer work groups are linked to our school for action research so any feedback that will be shared within the schools and within this groups of professionals which include Estyn, Professional learning pioneers and Welsh government and international agencies. The impact of this project will have impact of pupils from the age range of 2 to 19 years old. Although no pupils will be undertaking any international visits at this stage of the project.
The expected outcomes for the project is the situation that led us to the development of this project in our school improvement plan and has a number of priorities that link to Estyn key questions and desired impact we would like to have for our pupils and targets for school which then will produce the desired impact and purpose for all partners. The priorities also link to the national agenda of the curriculum reform within wales that is happening nationally, which we are a pioneer school focusing on the Area of learning Language, Literacy and communication. We are looking at how we can develop our classrooms to be high functioning for all individual pupils using a pupil centered approach and how we can link with partner school across the European Union to look at similar problems or gaps that we can address together. The needs of all the schools within the project have asked to look to at how their schools are focusing on individual priorities but looking at pupils with complex and additional learning needs and well – being and how we use the core skills of Literacy and numeracy to develop an inclusive curriculum for all here in Wales and around the schools within the European Union collaboratively. Carrying out this project is necessary for the schools involved to collect evidence and data relating to the objectives and priorities below in order to complete the success criteria needed. The evidence can then feed back into the national agenda of Wales and the European Union agenda as well as locally in our authority via ourselves and the other partner school school as a research based project and as a case study.
At the end of project all involved in this project should reflect and , wherever possible, actively promote the overarching aims and objectives that we have achieved in particular:
– the deepening of mutual understanding among citizens in Europe
– Respect for diversity of cultures and ways of life
– the protection and promotion of linguistic and cultural diversity
– the development of plurilingualsim as a life – long process
– the development of the language learner
– the development of the capacity for independent learning and development of literacy skills within the curriculum
– transparency and coherence in teaching and learning and best practice
Portfolios of evidence could be shared across the consortium and within our partnership schools to motivate learners by acknowledging their efforts to extend and diversify their language skills by looking at data to see if improvements have happened and still happen after this project and completing pupil work and portfolios by completing scrutinizes.
Further develop pedagogical function within schools to improve performance and enhance teaching and learning thought literacy and languages
