Project Summary

Throughout several decades, modern society is more and more anxious about adopting a healthier lifestyle, which will result in lack of health. By consuming unhealthy foods in great amounts and being physically inactive, lead our teens to the issue of obesity. This problem results in teenagers’ psychological troubles such as anxiety and depression and these teenagers start to exclude themselves from their friends and activities. When it comes to sorting out their personal problems, it becomes real problem in young people’s lives, they feel frustrated, discriminated, so they get more and more isolated. To measure these situations at our schools, we did SWOT analyses. A shortened version of school health of the World Health Organization was applied.Nearly 39.5% per cent of students prefer unhealthy diets, 22 % are overweight, , 30% are not physically active enough. We also found out that those kind of students seem not happy at schools (41% mentally not happy, 33% aren’t happy at schools), they even exclude themselves in school activities because of discrimination. 21% are bullied and even don’t know how to tackle with. After the disappointing results, we decided to aim at making teenagers develop their health skills mentally, physically and socially that could be implemented positively in their future life.
As health is a human right and as we are being teachers, we are lucky enough to educate these people when they are young. We aim to make schools an ideal place to teach and model healthy habits.
Our project aims at changes in participants lifestyles in a positive way and be aware of keeping healthy habits for long term.
Our objectives are:
1.to promote awareness on health and well being
2.to create a safe, healthy learning environment for students,
3.to raise mentally healthy students who have capacity to combat stress and bullying.
4.to decrease 70% of the bullying rate at schools
5.to bring physical activities in current life style to at least 60% target group students .
6.to raise the interest of 70% of participants on a healthy eating habits
7.to enable participants to have a healthy puberty period
8. to teach participants happiness and spread it with others

We will produce; a booklet; key to happier life, another booklet; healthy eating tips, a common health brochure, an online exercise video to do short exercises during breaks and PE lessons, an action calendar to create happiness and share it with others, an interactive project magazine which includes our healthy activities by cultural games, sports, dances, music, foods, herbs ppts and videos.

In order to obtain healthy skills, we concentrate on four themes;
Mental Health ( dealing with stress, finding out happiness, music and dance for relaxing, combating bullying)
Physical Activity (games and sports, importance of physical activity, morning exercises, outdoor activities)
Nutrition Health (Healthy Diets, weight management, obesity, vitamins, nutrition labels, accessing healthy foods at schools)
Health Care ( puberty, screen addict, body health, herbal medicine, first aid training, )

We are six partners; the coordinator Greece, Turkey, Italy, Finland, North Macedonia and Lithuania. The students ages are between 10-14. To reach these aims, we will have 5 students mobilities and 1 teachers mobility. 4 students and 2 teachers will join the students mobilities each time. During the mobilites participants will learn to tackle stress, use music and meditation skills for mental relaxation, how to combat bullying, importance of being physically active, adopt morning exercises, healthy diets, weight management, tackle obesity and puberty, learn body health, hygiene and first aid. We will give priority to disadvantaged students who are lack of these healthy skills including them in our activities and tracking their progress.

We will have independent school activities (applying and transferring skills gained at mobilities) and collaborative online activities (preparing healthy tips booklets, posters, slides, games with ICT tools, cultural herbs, sports etc.) with partners. Presentation of key topics will be given by experts. Parents will be our important participants in school activities. They will join our outdoor and in-school activities to gain healthy skills to create healthy homes.

The project will be a role model for other schools which are eager to develop health skills. Schools will meet their objectives to establish healthy and safe learning environment. Regarding students they will adopt necessary life skills that will be developed for lifelong. Project sustainability will be achieved by applying project outcomes in regular classes such as English, Biology, Physical Education, Technology after the project finishes. Project results are going to be shared within social media groups and etwinning, so that keen teachers, students and other people will make use of them for lifelong.
