Project Summary
Gender and media are of concern for everyone, not only European wide but dare we say worldwide. Both topics encompass fundamental rights that we as youth workers shall embrace and promote further. This project idea came out in one of our recently implemented activities under Erasmus+. The youth workers and youngsters attending the training course crystalized the main idea represented in this application as an important aspect when we discuss the gender roles in our society and attach media influence to it. Media was introduced ad key concept that leads the society today and can be guarded as both with its strong power of change, as much as with the enforcement of negative and false gender stereotypes in various cases (ie. Considering here that mostly women are portrayed as care givers, housewife’s, and also more likely are shown as a sexualized attire, while man are shown through media as the stronger dominant sex, they dominate the film industry both as main leading roles as well as in acting, directing etc). The project partnership is developed in a organic way. – Skills, expertise and capacities they bring in this project, – The past successful cooperation with them – Possibility to work with new partners and share experiences- Commitment to support all steps of project implementation – Special interest shown for the topics proposed- develop open educational resources as guides that will be used by organizations world wide What this project seeks to foster and encourage is to advocate for gender equality by the use of media and by training youth workers on how they can better report, show case and promote gender equality through the biggest mediums and communication channels they use for their everyday job. Our project addresses gender as an equality issue, with positive approach to diminish the negative stereotypes and discrimination related to sex and/or gender. Bringing together in a consortium various NGO’s across EU and WB, the project is the best spot for the youth workers to not only discuss the problematic and come up with suggestions for a better portray of gender issues, but also as a practical example that shall encourage each participants, partner association, collaborator and other beneficiaries to take the gender issues in consideration when drafting their communication strategies and while reporting their youth activities and/or any other project to the media.Learning by doing and learner centred approaches will be the bases of the project implementation, with regards and consideration of the various and different learning needs and styles of individuals to be participating in each activity. Among the practical and actual resources to be used we can mention here: Gender Matters revised manual; Getting the Right Balance -Gender Equality in Journalism by UNESCO, , FEMNET Training manual on gender based violence, Manual for gender mainstreaming, employment etc
