Project Summary
Vossius Gymasium in Amsterdam offers Geo-future school for 20 motivated 15/16 years old. Each year these 20 students will adress a hands on task in the context of sustainabilty and smart technology in sub-groeps of 4/5 students. The group of students is a motivated group as they have to apply for geo-future school with a motivation letter and be assessed by a selection committee.
The geo-future-task is each year given by a commissioning party. For instance the municipality of Amsterdam is looking for a new design for a sustainble and smart city district, or orginisation Groene Grachten wants new ideas on ‘the house of the future’. The students will work on new designs for a year. In the end a competation between the students is organised and one group wins. The idea is that the companies or orginasations can use the input from the students.
The students will, throughout an entire year, get workshops on the Geo-future project from an array of companies and orginasations. The workshops are varying from technological advances in green energy, possibilities for different water flows to taxes and regulation on private investments in green technology. Currently we only have these workshops within the Netherlands and the students work in groups of only Dutch students.
In order to improve the learning of our students as well as improving the end results of the Geo-future-projects, we want our students to learn from best practices in Germany. To fullfill this we want our Geo-future students to participate in an exchange with a school in Southern Germany. This exchange offers opportunities:
* the students can learn communicating in German and English
* the students will learn new things from the German students as their educational programme will be different. Input from one another can greatly improve the learning during Geo-future school.
* Southern Germany will provide ample opportunities for workshops on technology and green energy. Our students can greatly benefit from the knowledge in the region and their learning will increase
*The project will have better end-results due to the broader perspective that our students get. By this the commisioning party will have more benefits and will also indirectly learn from German knowledge, through our students.
