Project Summary
Get engaged! project was a long-term strategic partnership amongst 3 organisations across Europe. The project was 23 month long and aimed to provide professional support for umbrella organisations working in the youth field. The project idea was born out of an experienced problem that we faced during our daily work as an umbrella organisation. One of the biggest challenge was the lack of active participation and motivation from our member organisations. As a solution for this experienced problem we faced we developed this project idea together with Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and the Polish Council of Youth Organisations (PROM).
The main aim of the project was to develop innovative and diverse methods and techniques to motivate member organizations for active participation in order to help umbrella organisations to fulfil the aim they were established for.
The objectives of the project were:
– to share best practices and efficient methods umbrella organizations work with to motivate their members
– to evaluate and analyse the different methods used by organizations in the youth field
– to develop new methods, techniques and strategies to motivate umbrella organizations’ members for active participation
– to develop the skills and competences of young leaders of the umbrella organisation in order to make them capable developing innovative ideas and implement the new methods
– to create a Toolkit available for all organisations
– to disseminate the findings and impact of our project as best practise
– to improve knowledge about the Erasmus+ Youth Programme as a tool for improving the quality and enhancing the international dimension of youth work
In order to achieve the goal of the project we implemented the following actions:
Organising an international training course to improve knowledge and develop the competences of 28 youth workers. They learnt about organisational development and motivation and were introduced to tools for project management and strategic thinking. During the training course participants analysed and improved the quality of the work of the organisations, and there was space provided for them for discussions, sharing best practices and to develop their skills and competences further in order to improve their ability to transfer methods and experiential learning concepts into youth work practice.
Get engaged! – Toolkit includes 8 methods we developed, analysed and evaluated during the project. The aim of this Toolkit was to introduce the methods and techniques which in the case of this consortium are considered as the best solutions to reach the aims and objectives of the project.
During the National Multiplier Events, other organisations working in the country had the opportunity to hear and discuss about the Toolkit, which had been produced as an intellectual outcome of this project. At least 30 organisations were invited in each country to take part in the dissemination event. This means that altogether approximately 60 organisations working in the same structure could hear about our methods, and can also start to use them.
At the International Dissemination Events, we introduced the Toolkit on the BBC+ meeting and to the participants of the General Assembly of the European Youth Forum. The aim of these events was to give deeper insight to every participant – youth councils, and other international youth organisations – into the Toolkit, the methods we were using, and how this could be helpful for everybody working with the same structure.
The Get Engaged! Capacity Building Event was organised to train young participants to gain relevant skills to implement tools and methods for the development of umbrella or network organisations. With this Capacity Building event, we wanted to share the methods introduced in the Get Engaged! Toolkit with active members of umbrella organisations and create action plans on how to implement the eight tools in their own organisations.
Get engaged! – Ebook includes all the activities and events we organised during the project with their results, the outcome of the training course held for capacity building and all the methods we put into practice (short summary of them). The aim of the ebook was to summarize the results and the impact of the project as well as best practices and suggestions for peers who would like to organise a project similar to this one.
The project’s events (transnational meetings, training course, multiplier events) were based on an interactive and participative approach. The processes of learning from each other and learning by doing was be crucial. During the project methods of non-formal and informal education were used, such as individual, pair and group work, creative workshops, simulation and situation games, problem solving and debate exercises, interactive presentations, case studies, facilitated debates and discussions.
