GOALS project is fictionalised on achievement of relevant and high quality skills and competences through implementing physical and mental activities in the need of raising awareness and motivation for physical activity among the youngesters. We would like to develop social integration, intercultural understanding through engaging extracurricular activities. For this reason GOALS project mainly focuses on providing awareness on;1- Physical activity (with focusing on the importance of physical activity through popular sports) 2-Healthy lifestyles( with focusing on psychological effects of physical activitiy through popular sports ) 3- Intercultural dialogue (with focusing on traditional sports as an intercultural tool) 4-Environmental education ( by using outdoor sports)
Our target groups were; students having behavioural problems, school staff, parents, sport clubs, local authorities, associations, foundations, organisations and the citizens. 5 schools from 4 different countries, established this strategic partnerships for schools only in order to exchange good practices because physical activity is an issue that crosses many sectors and will require collaboration, coordination and communication with multible partners. The methodology we intended to apply in GOALS project is whole school approach focusing on learning by doing and interpersonal learning methods including creative LTT activities to help promote and sustain the positive behaviour changes. The LLT activities were be action based and student oriented. Besides; GOALS Project gave the chance to the participants to experience different non formal education tools such as workshops, trainings, seminars, role-plays, team works, educational visits, rountable discussions, presentations and web 2.0 tools.
This project took 2 years to complete. During these two years, 5 transnational meetings and 4 learning, teaching, training activities have been arranged. The GOALS Project aimed; to encourge and promote physical activity; to motivate the participants to have healthy lives; to inform the youngsters about environmental issues ; to raise the intercultural awareness through traditional sports; to encourage social inclusion and equal opportunities in sport; to shape up creative, self- esteemed, healthy, social and teamworking individuals. For achieving these goals, we planned various activities in mobilities. We organized a training expressing the importance and tips of increasing physical actvity in our daily lives; an observation visit was organized to different sport areas and the students engaged in different sport diciplines ,made interviews with sportmen to raise the awareness upon attending sports in Czech Reb. A lecture and a fitball workshop was organized in order to give the psychological benefits of regular physical activities in Poland. A seminar ; an educational visit to Spilos Natural Park and a trekking organization as a complementary performance was designed to reduce the ecological footprint of sports and to raise the environmental awareness in Turkey. An interactive interview and a seminar for demonstrating how sport can be used to overcome social and cultural barriers; an educational visit to a sport event (traditional) for increasing intercultural dialogue/ social inclusion and to breakdown stereotypes was organized in Germany. In our local activities we focused on campaigns(linked to the international organizations ) involving all target groups using the whole school approach and organizing local sport events using ‘learning-by-doing’ methods.
Among the expected results and the interrelated products of the project we array; An animated explainer video explaining the improtance of physical activity; A flash mob activity emphazing the pyscicological benefits of PA; a chain-story for raising the intercultural awareness; a public service announcement for informing people about environmental issues through outdoor activities. The impacts that we envisaged were: enjoying participation in physical activities; gaining personal confidence and self esteem; developing self-awareness and social skills; becoming alive to the environment; extending their communication, problem-solving leadership and teamwork skills; improving a new perspective for social inclusion and equal opportunities; motivating to learn languages and improving ICT competences;being more sociable and creative.
Regarding the number of participants, the project was open to everyone eager to participate. However aprx. 26 participants or more involved in mobilities from each country.Certainly more indirect beneficiars took place in the project through the activities and using audio-visual media tools. Implementing GOALS project succesfully, we hope to create active individuals, active families, active schools, active communities.
