Project Summary

The partnership “G.E.M. Gifted European Mathematicians” emphasizes the need for new pervasive didactic innovations on the international stage of this Thirdmillenium.
This breakthrough should overlap the learning styles of digital natives, Gutemberg’s great grandchildren and proficient
users of multitasking screens, combining student-centered methods, usage-based approaches and learning strategies such as
Coding, Gamification and Bottom up activities.
The “European Schools” context , focuses on Key Competences for the 21st century ,creating new alliances among different countries to promote cultural growth in an integrated environment.
This process should also help form young people
-skilled in Mathematics,Languages, Science and Technology
-willing to undertake mobility programmes
-able to find innovative solutions for promoting both social and economic growth.

The Project “Gifted European Mathematicians” aims at finding new strategies for a target group of students aged 14-17, belonging to the “Always On generation”.
It has been designed in an attempt to reduce the percentage of fifteen year old with poor results in basic subjects, and achieve the
benchmark “less than 15% by 2020″, enhancing professional competences in the fields of Mathematical Literacy and International
Scientific English. The EACEA (Mathematic education in Europe ) together with Ocse PISA and TIMMS produced an alarming report
on ‘aversion to the Mathematics, Maths failure linked to the Mathematical language difficulties.
According to these studies, a quarter of the students is below the critical threshold of minimum skills requested to transform Maths
into an instrument of active citizenship .
Similar circumstances have been described in the world of work :”Making Maths and English work for all- E.T.F._UK ” underlines the
fact that “… half of the employers feel concerned by low competences in Maths and English; it is necessary to improve these critical
areas due to their negative impact on business “. Further ” Survey Lang” in Literacy in L2, identifies B2 standard skills not readily
marketable.
The General OBJECTIVES are:
O1 Putting Maths into practice by correlating real life situations to Maths text, start the phase of the cycle of mathematisation.
O2. Promoting Maths Literacy, use computational thinking, employ procedures, data and mathematical tools to describe, interpret, operate assessments.
O 3.Promoting/Increasing the the Scientific English Literacy.
The Partnership is made up of 2 Italian Technical Institutes, 5 European Schools from Poland, Spain, Portugal, Romania and
FORPROGEST, Techno-pedagogy experts “Our graphics Magician.”
The project will be carried out through a wide range of activities:
-Mathematical Literacy “KIT-G.E.M. MEDAL: tools and instructions” a GAMING itinerary based on teaching units with the use of web
applications, innovative educational games and real time feedback.
-“MATHISH MASTERS” (Math +English) courses based on technical English texts on web applications, educational games and analysis
of specific samples included in “Corpus Linguistics: enjoying Maths words”
– pre-mobility Scientific English activities
-“A Beautiful Mind “Symposium in English including Maths challenges and games
-ICT Activities: Blog partnership “We love Maths”, etwinning, facebook and twitter contacts, Skype meetings
-“MATHEMATICS e-syllabus”, digital certification for the 3rd Key Competence on the digital platform Maths Cloud , 24/7
accessible fromTablet and Smartphone, by students with special educational needs. The platform connects 3 areas of related
competences (Mathematical Literacy, Mathematical Digital Literacy, Scientific English)
-MOBILITY: “EU Maths Skills” in Romania, in Italy Medal & Title to be earned: Gifted European Mathematicians in the EU Symposium with mixed team
-“Maths and Coding”: course in English
Indoor events in the schools/in partnership: workshops for teachers and students to socialize outputs and innovative practices.
Outdoor events: “GEMs’ Maths Corners ” performed in open spaces.
Project Cycle Management, schools and synergical events, as shown in the Erasmus +, produce innovation combined with cultural
alliances, seen as new tools for achieving better results in terms of didactic innovation.
The same process allows the achievement of the following objectives:
-Raising didactic innovation through the use of Gaming, Maths-cloud platform and following the “European Itinerary for the 3rd Key competence” shared among 7 European Partners;
-Increasing skills in the use of International Scientific English for a scientific approach to Mathematical knowledge;
-Lifting Mathematical Literacy up to the average standards reported by Ocse_Pisa surveys; Reinforcing social and civic competences
Expected result: using the ” G.E.M. MEDAL” and “MATHEMATICS e-Syllabus” as tools for the assessment of Mathematical Literacy
performances.
