Project Summary
Nearly 25 years ago, the world made a promise to children: that we would do everything in our power to protect and promote their rights to survive and thrive, to learn and grow, to make their voices heard and to reach their full potential. The children right to a clean environment is fundamental. It is both dependent upon and a precondition to a number of other human rights, including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. We can help our kids become informed, conscious decision-makers as adults by fostering their curiosity and instilling a love for nature. We know that increasing students’ environmental knowledge while also employing instructional practices that focus on interdisciplinary can influence behaviour change toward sustainability green literacy. The GREEN EDUCATION is about more than curriculum, more than programming. It’s education that supports global sustainability in every way. A green education begins with the future in mind, designing a learning experience for students that will prepare them to lead the world toward a healthier, cleaner, more sustainable; therefore work to achieve the 17 sustainable development goals proposed by the UN and its 2030 agenda. Between the project objectives we pretend to develop social and emotional skills within students, teachers, parents and community as well as activating a sense of empowerment to help all the participants understand how their actions can save the Planet. This project also aims to promote an environmental education which connects us to the world around us, teaching about natural and built environments. The project’s goals are to establish a stable cooperation between educational centres (the schools and the NGOs) and natural parks and areas so that the former can take advantage of all the possibilities offered by the parks, as educational resources and the latter benefit from the active cooperation of students as environmental agents. We want to innovate and improve competences in all subjects of the students’ curricula by: -educating our children attending to responsible behaviors towards their own and others’ rights – understanding how their decisions and actions affect the environment – new teaching practices in environmental education – how to reduce waste and protect our home nature: Mother Language, English language, History, Geography, Philosophy, Civic education,Natural Sciences, STEAM and Crafts. – new teaching practices in environmental education – using ICT as a lesson tool – in all subjects This project aims to become an international network of schools working in favor of saving GREEN ENVIRONMENT through innovative teaching and practices. The participants are 6 Schools located in cities near the Natural Park or protected area -from Turkey, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Poland.
We plan to organize – 5 Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils; 1 Short-term joint staff training; the students and the teachers will exchange the best practices and innovative learning methods used for preparation the topic. We have accepted that the number of student mobilities varies according to the number of students enrolled in each school. Each partner chooses a nature/protected area near their city/village to be the basis for the project activities. The team from each school will contact organizations working in the same area, museums, partners. The core activities should be universal and applicable to every natural area. The project activities will end with a final product – an e-magazine that can be printed and distributed to teachers, students and parents. It will contain methodologies for active learning and information technology in interdisciplinary environmental research.
Our work focuses on 5 topics:
