Project Summary
First imagined with students attracted by the subject of tourism, this project is written in the midst of a pandemic as everyone wonder about globalization and international trade. With different sort of schools located in highly touristic places, we wish to question the place of sustainable development when traveling, on the safeguarding of heritage and on the implementation of an eco-responsible policy within the establishments which welcome travelers. The participants are coming from different schools. The project is supported by the Vocational Section (SEP) within a large multi-purpose high school located in a sensitive area in Villefontaine, a few kilometers from Lyon, the second largest city in France. The second partner is a vocational high school, table EUROSCOL in the same training area in Bourgoin Jallieu. About fifteen kilometers separate the two establishments, thus allowing for inter-establishment cooperation which we hope will be rich in exchanges and educational sharing in our joint training in the tertiary sector, sales, commerce and hospitality, particularly customer relations. It was during the national conference in Dijon that we met our third partner in Belgrade, Serbia, who immediately agreed with the idea of the project. The school offering tourist training, of course it will be of great help; just like our two other partners, one in Funchal, Madeire in Portugal, the other in Antalya in Turkey who joined us after a post on the eTwinning forum. This school in Turkey is an eTwinning school. The last partner, a vocational high school in the field of catering, in Frascati near Rome in Italy has been our ally for many years and it is obvious that it is participating.
The project will be a really opportunity for students to meet each other and share about tourism in different countries. But at first, we imagined a training meeting between teachers in order to share our respective knowledge. Then, during meetings and learning activities with students, we will work on several themes related to tourism: UNESCO World Heritage, eco-tourism labels, rural tourism and the carbon footprint due to travel. We will try to answer the question of the definition of sustainable tourism.
Convinced that our youth is aware of climate issues while being very fond of openness to the world, we wish to commit ourselves through this project to bring concrete, cultural and scientific elements. The activities will be carried out and followed on the Twinspace of the associated eTwinning project.
The final production in the form of a booklet to leaf through online will enlighten travelers on the concepts covered and will give readers elements to reflect on the concept of sustainable tourism.
