Project Summary
The project was designed to widen the horizons of our pupils (all from small rural towns/villages, to increase understanding of the importance of having a good second language skill (English) and in doing so heighten our pupils awareness to health issues (good diet and healthy lifestyle.
3 lower secondary schools took part: one from Poland (Labiszyn) another from the Czech Republic (Jicin) and finally the coordiating school from France (Pontgibaud).
The actions undertaken followed the plan as laid out in the Gannt chart. (see annexe intermerdiary report) with the first year being essentially based on healthy eating (nutrition awareness when choosing a meal, plant life and garden creation and good cooking practice). Year 2 saw many sports acivities plus a development of the gardening activities from year 1.
Examples of major activities include a fitness challenge between pupils and teachers (using the app Endomondo) and the creation of a garden and installation of beehives, Both these projects were extremely time consuming but with such an investement on the part of pupils and teaching staff it is hoped to leave a lasting mark on both the people involved and the schools.
This is without talking about the lasting benefits to a large group of pupils (and their familiies) who participated in the mobilities. Language skills and cultural awareness as well as basic social and entrepreneurial skills were all accutely developed. At each occasion the whole education community was involved and in doing so increased the visibility of the project across the region.
The gardens are long-term projects and will be used by a succession of school groups in the years to come.
The healthy eating and physical activity project directly involved over 300 pupils. The importance of this message was reenforced by other parallel projects, making so much sense to the pupils and parents thus increasing long term impact. An example of a parellel project was the “zero waste” cantine in France. This project was included into the Erasmus+ studies and will remain a part of school life in France.
