Project Summary

The title of project “Heart & Tradition” was shaped on the basis of several factors that created project. The objective of the project, that we aimed to reach together with the school in Ostrava, is to support international, live cooperation between the institutions. We aimed to preserve valuable cultural heritage through traditional techniques and modern technologies used nowadays in art and practice. We aimed to create contemporary art using traditional methods and technologies applied in practice. The main goal of the project was to connect theoretical study of students provided in school with acquired practical skills, we want to adapt and implement techniques in selected art fields of study, to cooperate in education and upbringing of our students and collaborate mainly in the art fields of study. The project involved students from two secondary art schools attended by the students at the age from 15 to 19. These students were at the beginning of their educational path, so the need to increase following competencies was urgent: cultural awareness, communication skills, but primarily gain knowledge about culture, history and traditional crafts used in previous eras. The length of the project was one year with the goal to exchange skills and competencies in selected art techniques, interchange happened among students and qualified teachers. Project was based on traditions and historical crafts, which are infinite source of information and inspiration for contemporary artists. The participants gained necessary information about work environment, tools, procedures and practical use of selected techniques (overall management of technological work procedures).
Target groups involved in the project:
– 2 qualified teachers from both schools (completely 4 directly involved qualified teachers)
– 10 students from each school (completely 20 students from co-working schools)
During the project “Heart & Tradition” and its first mobility lasting 12 days we underwent a scholarship in Ostrava at school AveArt and became rightful members of their school for this time period. A group of selected 10 students and 2 teachers was involved in the project. The participants underwent exchange scholarship in the field of traditional techniques in ceramics. They started with the preparation of material used in ceramics and continued with shaping, drying, firing and decorating of products with glaze and engobe. The project meeting was closed and evaluated after the presentation of each participant and introduction of products that were created. During the second mobility ten students and two teachers from school Ave Art Ostrava underwent a scholarship at school in Hodruša-Hámre. During 12 days participants learnt and acquired experiences about metal chasing – soft working metal with hands technique. It is a metalworking technique in which metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering, we use special tools – chasing hammers, metal chasing planishers and metal chasing liners. Working with metal involves also cleaning, polishing, engraving and other procedures. The project was finished by the exhibition of artworks created by students involved in the project. The title of the art exhibition was Heart & Tradition. The art exhibition will present artworks to other teachers, students and public. We also promoted a dictionary in three languages (English – Czech – Slovak) focused on traditional crafts terminology as well as essential terminology. Gained experiences and created contacts provided a great asset to the whole team and each person that was a member of the project.
