Project Summary

Climate change is a global threat to all nations in achieving a sustainable future regarding many areas (e.g.economy, agriculture, health). Many countries are suffering from natural disasters, abnormal weather patterns, increasing heat day by day.Several actions have been taken accordingly at international level: Sustainable development goals (SDGs) were set by UN involving the 13th goal: Climate Action, Kyoto Protocol and lately Paris agreement (2016) were acknowledged by many countries. As stated in Curriculum Framework for the Sustainable Development Goals by UN (The 2030 Agenda),educational practices should be put in the centre of actions against climate change. As educational institutions, we aim to prove our role in contributing to realization of these actions by acting in an international collaborative partnership considering the power of education in shaping future citizens with knowledge, competence, skills, attitudes and values to cope with the causes and effects of climate change and mitigate and adapt the changes at best level.
Our primary aim is to raise awareness of mainly pupils, teachers, schools staff and parents regarding causes, effects of climate change and produce and act solutions accordingly at home and schools. Besides, for pupils and teachers, we aim to:
Develop foreign language and digital competence (web2.0 tools), research and presentation skills
Promote intercultural communication and respect to diversity
Be more independent and responsible European citizens dealing with global issues as climate change
Enhance self-confidence,creativity, problem-solving skills
Discover and share good teaching and learning practices to develop school education capacity
Use and adopt interdisciplinary, outdoor, cooperative, experiential teaching methods to better European education
Integrating climate change into curricula via lesson plans

Our partnership involves 4 countries: Romania as the coordinator, Italy, Spain and Turkey. The partners worked together in international European projects in different times before. Our pupils are aged between 10-13 and come from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds involving pupils with fewer opportunities, as well. These participants will be selected via previously-set objective criteria. As our project will involve all pupils and teachers in many activities and dissemination works, more than 2000 participants will be included in total. We will involve teachers from different fields of study to ensure the integration of climate change in each subject’s curriculum and improvement in teaching practices. The international scope of our project will be promoted via eTwinning project: Founding Twinspace of our project will include many other schools besides our partner schools and countries. We will enrich our activities with more partner schools.
We will carry out 4 transitional meetings for pupils and 1 for teacher training with various to-the-point tasks. All LTT mobilities for pupils and teachers require pre-tasks,meetings and assessment processes. The main methodologies we adopt in all project activities are cooperative, outdoor education, student-based and experiential learning and teaching methods with interdisciplinary education. Accordingly, we will mainly conduct workshops, visits to relevant facilities and centres, contests, lectures including discussion, peer editing, brainstorming, mind-map, experiments, trekking, etc. techniques. The activities will require group work and use of web tools such as research sites, logo and video makers to build cooperation, research, presentation and digital skills.Pupils with fewer opportunities such as refugees will join and contribute to the activities via individual and group works feeling valued in a larger community. LTT group works will also involve internationally-mix groups to boost communication. We will also adopt formative and summative assessment to monitor and check the realization of the project objectives through carrying out pre and post surveys for pupils, teachers and parents as well as reflection papers or interviews after each mobility and project year. Also, the realization of all methodology and assessment tasks will be achieved via good task distribution within and among partner schools previously.
As expected results,we aim to produce globally shared learning and teaching resources based on project theme and aims such as lesson plans and materials (e.g. educative games, literary works). Our participants will build conscious about and act against climate change. Also, the pupil and teachers will gain foreign language, research and digital competence besides intercultural communication and foster in educational institutions. All project activities and products will be disseminated through Twinspace, eTwinning Live events, project website and social media tools, fair and exhibitions and visits to local authorities
