Project Summary

Homeless people form one of the most disadvantageous groups in the society. They experience severe poverty. Most of them have additional drawbacks like drug addiction, alcohol addiction, poor educational background, disabilities or severe illnesses. Some of them are refugees and some of them get involved in a crime. They are isolated from modern life and society; so they fell apart from advantages of a normal and modern life. So, they need help of other people in the society. They need social inclusion, economic well-being, more health services for themselves, psychological rehabilitation, education in basic employment knowledge, skills and legal rights.

Almost all countries in the world have homelessness strategies and differentiated programs for helping them; but most of these programs address developing economic circumstances of them. When we search for broader approaches for homelessness problem, we saw that there are few examples in the world. Caring of all needs for homeless people is a difficult and expensive aim for policy makers. Project HOPE is an innovative project and primarily aims to deal with psychological and sociological problems of homeless people. Project objectives are:

– Developing new methods for helping homeless people by concentrating on their social and psychological needs, demands and characteristics
– Developing innovative training and rehabilitation modules/programs/curricula for homeless people and other target groups
– Providing exchange of best practices among partner countries and also searching for other best practices in the world
– Pioneering social inclusion of homeless people via training clubs and other social activities; showing them the virtues of a usual life
– Training homelessness people about job opportunities, local labor market, legal issues, public and private aid opportunities and organizations in the vicinity
– Implementing these modules/programs/curricula to homeless persons, their families and attendants working with them during some period and measuring efficiency
– Rehabilitating homeless people and their families if needed
– Mediating between homeless people and their families so as to reconcile them
– Raise the awareness of society for homelessness
– Preventing homeless people from isolating from the society
– Providing trainings also to personnel working with them
– Creating well-directed academic papers and conduct researches
– Creating an e-learning platform for basically simple vocational needs of the homeless

HOPE target groups are:

– Younger adult people between ages 20 and 30 who are living on the streets
– Other homeless people
– Families of homeless people
– Attendants/trainers/nurses/authorities/representatives of public and private institutions and associations/foundations which are working for homeless people
– Other members of the society

So, putting younger adults in the center, project HOPE aims to ameliorate the life of homeless people by focusing on all dimensions of homelessness issue. Partner will also involve participants with fewer opportunties to their activities and events. Moreover, participants with multiple disadvantages will be prioritized in HOPE activities.

In order to achieve its aims, project partners have been selected from all layers of relevant organizations: They involve;

– 2 universities’ sociology and social services departments,
– 1 local government body
– 2 associations,
– 1 training and rehabilitation center,
– 1 vocational education center and
– 1 small and medium sized enterprise

So, we established a strong and balanced partnership. Almost all partners have experience in EU projects and studies on disadvantaged groups especially. They all have sufficient qualifications for conducting the project.

Project HOPE aims to conduct a broad need analysis research, a country analysis research for the best practices in the world, innovative training and rehabilitation modules and programs, an e-learning platform which will address employment needs of homeless people and an academic research on them that aims to make progreess in project topic. Partners will also carry out pilot trainings for ensuring the quality of modules and programs and implement final modules in Training and Rehabilitation Clubs. Additionally, they will organize 5 multiplier events in all partner countries.

Partners will do their best for smooth project management. In most of the sub-topics, they will use universally accepted tools like PMI’s PMBok Guidelines. They will implement effective budget, time, quality, risk management. They will use all sources for uninterrupted communication and cooperation. They will also create new methodology and use all methods for efficiently disseminate HOPE results and increase its effect on the society. Partners will organize transnational meetings 5 times in Turkey (2), Italy (1), Hungary (1) and Austria (1). Partners will use all channels for enhancing the impact of HOPE.
