Project Summary
The project called “How to integrate adults and different generations in museums’ activities?” was applied in collaboration with museums from Estonia, Slovakia and Hungary. All three museums see the importance of adult learning and learning across generations to ensure sustainable, innovative and knowledge based society.
According to the European Agenda for Adult Learning which is aimed to increase participation in adult learning (formal, non-formal, informal) to develop new skills, we see that it is important to develop the same field in museums, because museums play an important role in non-formal and informal education field.
Adults have many responsibilities that they must balance against the demands of learning. Because of these responsibilities, adults have barriers and challenges against participating in learning and continuing their education.
Secondly, due to fast socio-economic and digital revolution, lots of grandparents and children do not understand each others values and views of world in general. To decrease a cap between generations we see that museums can offer special programmes to engage these two groups of people.
As museums are core associations offering different solutions to learn in informal and non-formal way and they have great experience on educational programmes for children, then we see that it is essential to improve the field of adults learning more further.
The project targeted adults, seniors (including minorities) and children with grandparents. All expected results were achieved through active meetings with three partners and stakeholders.
During the project 3 international meetings were organized in Estonia, Slovakia and Hungary to share ideas and develop new methods and programmes for improving adult learning and learning across generations.
Media as a tool to draw attention to the general problem was used modestly but information about the project activities was shared with media channels.
After the end of project all partners are developing further and organizing the programmes and activities for adults, grandparents and children to offer high-quality learning opportunities. We see that in long-term it will lead to greater, sustainable and knowledge-based society where unemployment is low and life-long learning active.
