Project Summary

The highlight of our project idea is the belief that every problem around us could be solved thanks to a focused and joint work.So every legal method should be used in trying to make people from different cultures get closer to each other. Our main topic is human rights. Following this line we will create a fellowship of moderators who will have enough strength to solve ethnical, religious conflicts, to cope with school bullying and domestic violence. But more important it will be learned how to respect each other as human beings.Different school subjects will help us in this adventure.First we will start with History, with The Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was written in 1948 in Geneva. This year we celebrate its seventieth anniversary. We will use Geography to trace out the refugee routes and create various types of maps. Maths will be used to create diagrams and works of statistics. During the lessons of Social Studies we will ask and answer some very basic questions. How do human rights help you? Where do human rights come from? Do our students have knowledge about these main topics? Are they prepared well to fight for their rights?Arts will also play an important role in our project activities, both creating artistic works and analyzing existing masterpieces will help to reach our goals.
The five schools will share the work, the basic topics, tasks, they will be totally equal partners. Each partner school will have their own main topic.Hungary, as a coordinator, will be responsible for the topics of intolerant behavior and bullying at school. The Romanian school will have the task to show how minorities live in one country successfully keeping their origin, traditions , customs and beliefs. In Italy, violence against women has been a hot topic for the past few years. Italian team will show us how women rights “work”. They will present their country as a place where domestic violence is condemned, and thus talked about. The Greek team is from Lesvos island, a beautiful place of Heaven. At the same time, the island is one of the areas under particular pressure due to the refugee problem that has arisen at a pan-European level. Greek students, teachers, local community face new challenges every day because of the special geographical location of Lesvos Island. They can show how voluntary work can help in understanding human rights. The Bulgarian team will present their hometown Plovdiv as an example how different minorities with their different religions can live peacefully together. Finally all the teams will give students and teachers the chance to broaden their knowledge about different cultural contexts.
Today young people live their lives at a very quick pace getting information from a lot of sources. On the other hand, youngsters’ knowledge is frequently based on stereotypes. They don’t know how their peers from abroad live. Foreigners and minorities are sometimes seen as potential economic and social dangers.Racism is growing in our countries, our students are of the age when they can be attacked by extreme ideas and we have to show them the right way of thinking. The project will give the chance for the students to learn about human rights that are based on values like dignity, fairness, equality and independence. But human rights are not just abstract concepts, they are defined and protected by law. Many of us take human rights for granted. However unfortunately they are not always observed. It is a sort of thing that could happen to anyone, and it makes us feel badly treated, discriminated or humiliated.
Our activities, mobility feedbacks, final project products will show why human rights are important in situations that could affect everybody, their family or friends. Before the mobilities, students and their parents, teachers will be prepared for these trips and by the time they arrive in the host country they will have had a lot of information about its culture, religion, people and problems in connection with human rights.. Students are also going to be prepared for the activities they have to do during the meeting. At the end of the project students will hopefully understand that human rights are relevant to all of us, not just those who face repression or mistreatment because they protect all of us in many areas of our day-to-day life. Our main project goal is to create knowledge which wouldn’t be forgotten after these two project years. Youngsters will know that all human beings were born free.Everyone has the right to have their own thoughts, make their own decisions and share their ideas with their fellow students and as human beings they should be treated in the same, respectful way, and nobody can take these rights and freedom away from them.
Working on the project the staff will improve the quality of teaching and learning as they will find new, interesting topics to deal with and find new methods to use during their lessons and all these can be included in our new curricula.
