Project Summary

Background
The aim of our project was to develop, in our school, activities concerned basic skills and social and civic skills, in the foreign language, with cultural awareness and expression, digital competence, that are very important instruments in order to make the European citizenship, and in a Life-long learning perspective.
In our Erasmus + project there were five countries: Italy (as the coordinator), Poland, Romania, Denmark and Greece. We had students with problems with the basic skills; some of them had DSA certification, or other disabilities. Our project involved all kind of students, it let them to consolidate and strengthen the necessary skills to have an active and responsible citizenship.
Objectives
During the project we created activities that had improved the quality of teaching and learning. The main objective of this project was to develop teachers and school staff competences, and to find and
exchange methods of teaching basic, social and civic skills, through the activities of the project. The students used ICT and they have learnt how to cope with emotional problems, like assertiveness and aggression. They have learnt how to think about, discuss, communicate and work together with other mates from different countries.
All students and the teachers from our schools took part in our project. All the subjects were involved (especially Basic skills, Language, English, History and Geography, Citizenship Education).
Activities
In our project there were 2 planned Transnational Project Meetings, where we discussed about the plans, drafts and final versions of the final product, as well as we exchanged experiences and ideas for the project activities.
We realized 4 students mobilities (to Greece, Italy, Poland and Denmark). Due to Covid-19 pandemic we had to cancel the last mobility in Romania.
Our partnership had a cooperative approach; Students from our schools discussed about their familiar world (school, friends, family, and community). They reflected about the most important “words” in their life, as well as their values. They shared what they like to do (hobbies, sport, music, books…) using original ideas, or ideas that came from the best practices as they appeared in the Proceedings Conference about “Citizenship: a new ethic for the 21st Century -a contribution of E twinning”, they used the multilanguage site “The images of the others”. They also prepared “travel plans” in order to know the countries of the Partner schools, and they sent each other suggestions for the trips.
We organized activities concerned with the education to the active citizenship. Students met the Major and the local administrators, and they got known all the services that the town offered. They met the representatives of associations that worked in the territory. We organized some activities with the Parents Association. All the activities, results, documents were shared with the Partner schools. In that way, students had the possibility to improve their own basic, social, civic skills also in a “real” context, and at the same time they communicated in English. They were stimulated to know about the European Union through some material distributed by the school, and also through some didactic games such as “Europe-We” (Italy), a project promoted by the Department for European Policies, in cooperation with the European Commission.
Methodology
Our project’s activities contained all necessary phases: implementation, monitoring, evaluation and dissemination of the project results. We realized joint projects, teachers and students’ mobilities, CLIL, ICT-based methods, peer learning, work in national and international groups.
Short description of the results: the main results are leaflets about school habits, hobbies, friends, family, community; a short book with words and expressions connected with the project’s topics, PPPs and a newspaper about the trips abroad and the meetings with the local associations and administrations.
After the project, our teachers are more competent in teaching basic skills concerned with citizenship, education field, linguistic aspects, ICT tools, intercultural and innovative methods. They have improved their way of thinking and writing European projects. Students have gained new competences in the areas of basic, intercultural and linguistic skills. They became more confident and responsible for their future life.
Impact
Teachers and students are more open to innovations, new changes, eager to work in international groups together with local authorities and educational government. Their level of English has improved. The project activities will be continued even after the EU funds will end.
