Project Summary
The project “If you were a MEP(Member of the European Parliament), what would you do for environmental health? is offered to 14 French pupils aged 14 to 16 from Saint-Stanislas High School in Nantes and to 14 Romanian pupils aged 15 to 18 from Mihai Eminescu High School in Cluj-Napoca. It will last 12 months, between September 2020 and August 2021.
This project meets several needs of European companies both structurally and temporarily. Indeed, it aims to train students to become European citizens and strengthen the European community identity.
Also, at the time of climate change, this project gives each participant the opportunity to understand the challenges to overcome in order to improve environmental health, in particular on a European scale.
This project aims to promote participation in European democratic life, intercultural dialogue. It promotes education for sustainable development by raising awareness and placing participants as an awareness player in the field of environmental health.
It encourages collaboration on a European scale in order to improve the quality of life of each citizen.
In terms of formal learning, it allows students to acquire language skills, communication skills and digital tools as well as skills related to environmental health and the challenges of each territory.
To do this, the students will create a NGO and its website fed by articles highlighting the challenges related to environmental health and identifying solutions to overcome them. They will have to set up an exhibition linking written articles, photographs, infographics, video reports as well as organize animations combining serious games, quizzes, debates, DIY workshops in order to educate their peers on environmental health. Finally, they will have the opportunity to participate in the EUROSCOLA project, a work mixing French and Romanian students.
In order to collaborate and develop this environmental health awareness project, the participants will use the TWIN SPACE of ETWINNING to communicate, exchange information, write their articles, reflect on their awareness actions, agree on the development of their NGO site. Apart from the different disciplines such as geography, science, languages and history which develop initiatives in connection with the project, one hour per week for each participating group will be devoted to the construction of this project. The students will be divided into working groups mixing French and Romanian students in order to mutually enrich their own skills, their experience and to shed light on the challenges and capacities of each partner country.
The two meeting times of the participants, first in Cluj-Napoca then in Nantes will be an opportunity for the students to develop their reflections and cross-check their information on the subject studied. Meeting with political and academic actors as well as members of associations committed to raising awareness of environmental health will be an opportunity to develop their thinking on the solutions to be considered. Finally, the meeting in Nantes will allow the realization of the awareness project by allowing students to organize events with respect to their peers.
This project therefore enables each participant to become aware of the various health and environmental challenges to be raised in order to improve their quality of life, and also the need to actively engage at local and European level in developing citizens’ awareness to develop practices.
