Project Summary

We are witnessing a succession of climate changes that modify the environment around us and this issue concerns us all today. The figure of Greta Thunberg and Friday for Future have given a strong impulse to the desire, even of the youngest, of the cause which, however, often does not result in concrete actions. This challenge requires greater awareness of the relationship that exists between our individual behavior and the environment around us. To foster this relationship, we believe it is essential that pupils realize how much they depend and are linked to their habitat.
This is why this title was chosen: “I AM ENVIRONMENT”: to indicate that I am what I eat, what I observe around me, what I sing, what I produce, use and reuse, I am where I move and where I come from , I am what I perceive around.
The European Community has extended the Environmental Objectives up to 2050 underlining that on one hand it is important to offer everyone the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and values necessary to protect the environment, on the other hand it proves necessary to create new models of behavior of individuals, groups and societies. In this purpose the school plays a fundamental role being able to transmit this knowledge in a homogeneous way among the pupils and reach their families.
These are the aims shared by 5 European schools that have materialized in the “I am environment” project. The “Istituto Comprensivo Rovereto Sud” of Rovereto (Italy), the MS – Mittelschule of Scheßlitz (Germany), the BG / BRG Seebacher of Graz (Austria), the Masarykova základní škola a mateřská škola Melč, okres Opava, příspěvková organizace di Melč ( Czech Republic) and the 52 primary school “Tsanko Tserkovski” in Sophia (Bulgaria) will undertake for two years in the organization of multidisciplinary activities to promote a culture of “well-being” and healthy and respectful behaviors and lifestyles of what surrounds us. The schools will work in parallel on 4 macro themes strongly linked to the environment and the daily life of the pupils: nutrition, nature intended as contact with the earth, the 3 Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) and movement.
Reasoning about the origin and content of the food we ingest, calculating our environmental footprint, taking care of a small green corner in which to grow plants or flowers, recycling materials to produce reusable objects, are just some of the examples of activities in which pupils will be involved .
Indeed, the project does not want to remain on an abstract level, but translates into concrete, tangible actions, examples and experiences, therefore assimilable and “repeatable” in everyday life by the direct beneficiaries of the project: teenagers between 11 and 15 years of age. Each phase will end with a final product that testifies to the set of experiences (a calendar, a photo album, a multilingual newspaper, …).
Collaboration between schools will take place on two fronts: virtual and physical. Pupils will move on the Etwinning platform in a constant exchange of materials and video conferences that will allow the creation of a relationship between the participating classes.
At the end of each phase, there is a shift mobility in one of the participating countries. 20 boys from four partner schools will go to a country for 5 days with the aim of sharing and discussing the assimilated contents, formulating hypotheses and solving problems.
They will have the opportunity to discover a new culture and at the same time to grow independently, stimulate their self-confidence, spirit of initiative and adaptation. Welcomed as a family, they will experience a full linguistic and cultural immersion in the host countries and touch the sense of belonging to Europe and the spirit of sharing and respect between European nations.
Mobility will prove to be an excellent opportunity for professional growth for accompanying teachers, 2 for each country, both as regards the development of language skills and for the exchange of good practices at an educational and / or organizational management level. For the Italian, Austrian and German schools, this project is also a great opportunity to enter the world of Erasmus Plus supported and guided by the Bulgarian and Czech schools that have more experience.
The results of the project will be made public internationally through the Etwinning platform, the homepages of the various schools and the official website of the project, where the access to all the products and materials developed by the schools in the two years of collaboration will be guaranteed, as well as after the closure of the project. At the local level, each school will be responsible for the dissemination of the results achieved through events aimed at the community, local newspapers and television networks, the initiatives of the competent school offices.
