Project Summary

The I-YES project “Improve Your Emotional Skills”, funded by the European Commission under the programme ERASMUS + Educational and vocational training, aimed at facilitating the entry of young people into working life by creating innovative tools to develop their emotional and social competences. The project was launched in September 2015, for a period of two years, during which six European partners (Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Romania) worked to improve the emotional and social skills of young people from disadvantaged social backgrounds aged from 14 to 25 years. This partners have developed innovative methods and tools to compile in an Intervention programme to increase youth performance and prepare them to enter the labour market. During the whole project, youngsters have been both actors and beneficiaries: they have given feedbacks, and they actively took part in the development of tools and methods that were designed for them. The 45 activities of the intervention program were divided into three main categories: the “personal sphere” (self-awareness and management of emotions), the “interpersonal sphere” (relation-ship to others) and the “global sphere” (towards the widest social sphere). In addition, a virtual school (http://elearning.iyes-project.eu) focused on learning socio-emotional skills have been developed.
The activities tested during the piloting received a good feedback from trainers/teachers and young people. This type of activity is crucial for the new generations to develop this type of skills. According to professional feedback, the I-YES intervention program is useful because some of the behaviors of young people have changed, such as their attitudes towards themselves, others and their position within the group. The program allowed them to step out of their comfort zone, interacting with their colleagues in a different and more intimate way. He also created several moments of discussion and sharing of emotions and points of view.
The I-YES Intervention Program was also considered a transversal program, useful for other target groups. For example, it can be used by adults because the development of emotional skills, especially those to communicate and work in teams, is possible and necessary throughout life. We hold that socio-emotional skills play a fundamental role in young people’s lives. Unfortunately, in many European countries, professionals working with the target group have little information on the importance of socio-emotional skills. As a result, young people will benefit from the I-YES project by strengthening their skills, and professionals will benefit from the project by gaining new insights into the importance of socio-emotional skills and the approaches and tools that can be used to build these skills in a group. The project’s knowledgeable training centers at local and regional level in each country are mobilized to integrate the I-YES tools into their professional practices.
The project coordinator, ID Formation, is a vocational training center that trains over 100 young people every year and has extensive experience in European programs.
The Italian partner, Civiform, is a vocational training center for young people aged between 14 and 17 to give them a chance to be better integrated, socialized and trained. Almost a third of young people come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The German partner, CJD Frechen, is an approved training center for the social and professional reintegration of young adults. The majority has a learning disability and therefore risks being excluded socially.
The Portuguese partner, ISQ, is a private company that provides technical advice and training. They have extensive experience in the field of innovation, development, continuous training in human resources and as well as in the management of European projects.
The Romanian partner, UPM (“Petru Maior” University), has conducted research in the field of training of trainers and professional advisers, and on improving the well-being of students at school by developing their skills at the social and emotional level.
The Greek partner, Best Cybernetics, is a privately owned company with significant experience and increased knowledge of new technologies used in training programs. They provide customized, reliable and cost-effective solutions that help their customers maximize their performance.
